I must say that your post is an eyeopener, especially when I am eyeing a C500 and counting my coins for buying it with a CD7q. I agree one should only buy what is there now as you can never be sure if the promise is fulfilled. If they do after a long delay, then it becomes meaningless. You will be very disappointed if you buy a c500 and and a CD ODq7 and then pay a 1500 up charge to find out that slomo is not yet implemented- it is "promised". I have been waiting 8 months for the promise to come thru, I have had to rent a slowmo camera 5 times and soon to be a sixth in that time of the "promised upgrade". I could have bought an FS700 and paid the up charge to CD to get fast frame rates on my OD7q for what it cost in rentals.
I love the C500 and the ODq7 for what it does, but they never should have charged so much for an upgrade that still does not exist. Only buy someone that does what it says it will do- I have learned the hard way, If you buy a fs700 you certainly get your moneys worth with the OD7q- CD has made sure you were taken care of at half the up charge of the C500.
What do you mean? Im confused.
If I have the C500 and the O7q I will not be able to record slow motion?
Then how?
The epic does seem to suite me more for its frame rates, but I dont think its a great choice for Doc/live event shoots, right?
Plus, if Im not mistaken, it is still double the price of the C300. Would not be able to afford it.
Oh, so its not the camera itself, but CD.Yes, I was confused too. In my excitement of being able to buy the C500 and & CD OD7Q and being promised a first quarter of this year implementation of higher frame rates, I went ahead and booked things that needed higher frame rates. Well here I and everybody else with a c500 sits waiting for them to make good on their promises, while we rent cameras to fill in until they deliver. I am personally furious with CD for charging me so much extra and not delivering whilst FS700 owners paid half and have been much better looked after. It is extremely frustrating to have to carry a whole other camera system overseas because CD can't or has more important things to do than deliver on their promises.
Double??? When you add on all the accessories (LCD, batteries, memory cards, etc.) on it it will be more than double. What do you mean? Im confused.

Do you ever read the specs?..google is your friend!Oh, so its not the camera itself, but CD.
If I use a different recorder though, I probably wont have this issue?
Like with the Atomos Shogun?
Mitch is it possible to still get high frame rates out of the C500 with out using Canon's high file format...
So do we understand that the coding for C500 been done and is awaiting approval from Canon? We are working to zoon deliver high frame rate capture from the Canon C500. We are committed to capture all outputs possible from this camera.
Atomos has not indicated (to my knowledge) that the Shogun will be capable of capturing the RAW output of the Canon C500. It is a unique file format and coding must be written with this camera specifically in mind. This coding must then also go through an approval process with Canon, which is no small affair.
There are many false assumptions in the above statements.Mitch was referring to Atmos needing approval from Canon. CD has had it from Canon for a long time. They just chose to charge double for the Canon upgrades because it is a smaller market than the Fs700 and as we now know they put most of the implementation time into the Sony so those owners got the implementation much faster. Guess who owns an FS700 and not a C500? I rest my case.
The C500 outputs up to 120fps in 2K/HD, but the O7Q currently only supports recording that signal up to 30p in DPX format or ProResHQ for HD resolution. It can record 60p RMF (raw) files with 4K output enabled.
Really hoping some C500 love comes down the pipe soon from CD...

We are fully committed to supporting both the C500 and the FS700.
