C300: External Recorder

Are there any external recorders for the C300 that will allow me to record slow motion and 4K?

Just heard of the Atomos Shogun, would that work?

Well add 200 to your c300 then you'd have a c500 which does 4k with the CD7Q and someday if CD honors their commitment made when I paid a 1500 upgrade, will do slomo.

Um... What did your camera vendor tell you? You know, the guys you bought the camera from...

The answer is no. While the cameras share the same sensor the c300 has no 4k processor system to actually output anything in 4K. It was never designed to do this and is not priced accordingly for the r&d cost recovery.

Guys, be fair. Don't troll a person who simply may not know and is asking a legitimate question.

Michael, the answer is no. The C300 can not output either slow motion or 4K. herefore there is no recorder which can capture it from the camera.

Um.. I was actually being serious, and asking because I haven't been in the loop with any recent updates. I haven't been on the forums either for quite some time.
So, I wasn't sure if anything was available for the C300 or not.

K?

Another totally stupid question,
there isn't a way to change/upgrade the c300 to the c500 without selling it an buying a new one is there?

No. Not yet. Hope Canon comes with an upgrade path. Canon had never given new features in a camera till it started with giving 24p in the 5D II. Canon started listening to people and giving video specific updates. With the Cinema cameras there has been higher ISOs with later firmware release, then Dual Pixel AF. Upgrading C300 to C500 will need a bit of surgery to the body. Canon has to decide if it makes financial sense to them.

No sir… It wouldn't just be a simple firmware upgrade. If you need a 500's capabilities, I'd suggest selling your 300, since they still get almost new prices in the used market, and buy a 500 since they have come down significantly in price since their introduction.

Or you could wait because I bet the next line of Cinema EOS cameras will all feature 4k.....depends how quick you need it now. I'm quite happy with my C100 now and when they announce the new cameras to replace the C100-C500 line, I'll upgrade then. But That's just me and my needs, yours may be very different.

I wonder how canon might try to seperate a C100-4K from a C-3004k (wich basically would be a C500). I´m sure they`ll find a way, but I silently hope, they just merge the two models and meet half way price wise. And I still think Canon will wait at least until NAB15 with a new C-line, but we`ll get some 4K DSLR(s) at Photokina.

@DDdirector: It would be easy to make fun of you, but I actually like it that you just shoot with a C300 without giving a funk for Canons marketing strategies and portfolio diversity! Cheers to you!

Almost every shoot Ive done.. Actually ever shoot that I can recall, I had to shoot slow motion. And slow motion at 60fps in 720p is just does not cutting it all the time.
Some of the exports end up being 4K (which 720p would be horrible), but the majority still being 1080p.
But, still. 720p with only 60fps isnt the entire package I need. 120 would be much better, and at least 1080p. But 4K is what we are pushing towards now.

I have the C300 because it is amazing. Super fast and easy to use, especially when doing live coverage or documentary style shooting. High iso and is clean in low-light.
Best camera I've used for my type of shooting. The Red would be my first choice for the frame rates, but its not the best for the documentary/live coverage shoots I do, plus, the Epic is still kinda expensive.

Been considering selling to upgrade to either Red or C500. But since I have everything I need for the C500, Im leaning towards that. Plus, its the same great camera I'm using with extra features.
Had no idea I would need to be upgrading the C300 for the frame rates so soon.
Would rather sell now, while price is still good

If 720p doesn't "cut it" then there are few cameras that do it for you. Red Epic would be one as it does 96fps at 5k. The FS700 does shoot 1080p but it does feature a lot of aliasing and horrible artifacts in highlights in AVCHD 240p.

You might sit down and read the specs on the C500 before you just blindly purchase one. Especially if you are needing 4K and slow-mo. Then you might also want to budget for a high end external recorder.
