Canon T1i with 1080p announcement today

I think I know how mattias feels sometimes.
*lol* yeah 4/3 is closer to 35mm and the d90 than 35mm and the d90 are to the 5d, for example, and it's still much much bigger than any other video or small gauge film format. people don't have to like this, but it's always annoying when they hardly even believe you. it's math for god's sake. ;-)

Maybe not with the 3/4" sensor that doesn't allow the vast majority of users to use their 35mm lenses without the immense crop factor. Not to mention the very slow manufacture zoom lens...

Agreed the crop factor (x2) will be an issue for getting really wide angle lenses going . . . but even the kit 14-140mm is a reasonable decent wide (35mm equiv - 28mm).

If you world is about ultra wide angle lenses then you might need to look elsewhere, it's not a big issue for myself, I rarely go wider than 28mm, plus I expect 3rd party lenses to start to pop us sooner rather than later.

The 4/3 sensor is not that much smaller than your D90's sensor. It has an equivalent crop factor of x2 compared to your D90's x1.5; which is not that bad compared to 2/3's x3.8 crop factor.

Very true, the GH1 (FourThirds) sensor is larger than the Scarlet . . .

Why so surprised + agitated? Did you really expect that Canon will push a Camera on the market with FHD-Video + manual control for around 700,- bucks? This is an entry-level dslr for people who wants to shoot here and there some moving pictures of their children in the garden or during vacations (and then 20fps are enough).

This market, the point and shoot parents and vacation people will be wondering why half their shoots have weird pulsing and flickering lights in them as the 20fps clashes with both NTSC and PAL.

Quite a feat, a frame rate that screws up on both side of the Atlantic.

Canon, congratulations.

lol car3o, i know what you're saying, but that crop factor still isn't something i would work with. That's all im saying.

...

To be honest I´ve never seen any stuff with 20fps. But did you take a look at the example on this site:
http://i.gizmodo.com/5182772/canon-...-50ds-sensor-1080p-vids-899-?skyline=true&s=i

I can´t realize any flickering... Anyway, would somebody of you consider to purchase this cam actually, if 24fps would be included?

At $900 yes I would certainly purchase this cam if it had 1080p24 at the mark II 5D datarate.

I wonder if the datarate for the 720p30 is the same as the mark II 5D? That would be some seriously good compression.

If the D90 didn't have the jello, and better bit rate, then i would splurge on more expensive wider lenses. Yes. But as it is right now, its still way too soft for me.

Car30, just saying this incase you aren't aware, but you seem very argumentative/defensive of certain things you say, don't know if they are actually coming out that way, but it seems to be at a read. Not that enjoyable some times :P

Lee, my full support for your sarcasm. The new Canon is more than disappointing. If the same brains that are responsible for this camera are going to design a firmware upgrade for the 5D we better don't dare the upload. :zombie_smiley:

not really. both 100 and 120 (the number of light pulses per second in 50 and 60hz respectively) can be evenly divided by 20. it's actually pretty much the only frame rate that *doesn't* clash with at least one of them.

nah, I'm not trying to come off that way...I think it's mattias's fault really. But what I'm trying to point out is that you like the dof on the d90, but yet, the gh1 has "almost" exactly the same dof. That's all. You can't say that the d90's lens selection is better than the gh1 when their crop factors are insignificantly different. that's it. So your 28mm lens on the d90, would be a 42mm the gh1 a 56mm. So your wides on the d90 aren't any better. A 20mm on the gh1 would be a 28mm on the d90..see what I'm saying? I secretly work for Panasonic too.

i'm really sorry if i've made you defensive, something i'm really trying not to be myself. argumentative though, that's my middle name and i'm happy if it spreads. it's not unpleasant if you're used to it, it's fun and it makes you smarter. :-)

(and going for the argument itself actually helps bring out interesting stuff in discussions. it makes people defensive and then they reveal their true motives)

Ahhh....so THAT's your game plan. And here i thought you were just misunderstood.
