Canon T1i with 1080p announcement today

Panasonic are going to sell a lot of GH1's it appears.

Agreed, the GH1 should be a great camera if there are not an unforeseen calamities like excessive wobble/skew.

But I think Canon know what they are doing, your average consumer is not well versed in frame rates, data rates and aspect ratios - having 'FULL HD' on the box is good enough for them, they don't know or care about what the correct frame rate should be.

but even your average punter is going to notice that they're kids look a bit retarded in their home movies.......on second thought maybe not

20fps, a translation.

"PAL people, the vast majority of the world, those of you who don't want shots unpredictably ruined by pulsing lights . . . .

. . . go f*ck yourselves.

All the best.

Canon."

Beautiful! I Second that............

There is a very genuine anger across the board here. Canon has Fked up terribly this time. Not from
ignorance, however from greed that has insulted the consumer with this absolute deliberate action.

From Canon know how, to " Don't know How" is clearly the company mission now.

Canon, from my heart: YOU ARE F%$#&^% IDIOTS!

It's just a half-assed bonus feature on a stills camera, they're obviously not serious about digital movies.

24fps, progressive, manual control, is Canons money maker. Other companies will give it to us.

They are not stupid. Look how they are milking the HV20/30/40 series finally the 40 has real 24p.

Nikon has a real opportunity to come out with a great highbred camera. A firmware upgrade fixing the D90 short coming would be great, too. But Nikon may be smoking the same brand crack as Canon.

Maybe not with the 3/4" sensor that doesn't allow the vast majority of users to use their 35mm lenses without the immense crop factor. Not to mention the very slow manufacture zoom lens...

this whole Canon thing is like being in a nightmare, where it's your birthday, you open up the gift to see this amazing camera which everyone praises. Then everyone around you says how lucky you are to get the only version that doesn't shoot 24p but 20p! And no matter what you say they all think that this is a great feature, meanwhile your head is spinning and you're trying to wake up!

The 4/3 sensor is not that much smaller than your D90's sensor. It has an equivalent crop factor of x2 compared to your D90's x1.5; which is not that bad compared to 2/3's x3.8 crop factor.

Basically it's going to be a tough call between the GH1 and the RED Scarlet 2/3 for me. Although I'm hoping that the D400 pulls through.

But one should be able to use all their Nikon glass on the 4/3 system, everything except ultra wides will be fine. So an ultra wide would be the only 'new' lens you would need for the system.

Plus the D90 still kicks A for its price range. Here's hoping for the D400..

Why so surprised + agitated? Did you really expect that Canon will push a Camera on the market with FHD-Video + manual control for around 700,- bucks? This is an entry-level dslr for people who wants to shoot here and there some moving pictures of their children in the garden or during vacations (and then 20fps are enough).

Apart from that I put my hopes in Nikon. They haven´t to protect any camcorder market. In comparison to this chit here I praise the D90 ;-).

First hands on...:

Yikes, the 30 fps makes me sick to my stomach, and I didn't even bother looking at the 1080p 20fps video.

There's absolutely no manual control across the board...I'm just not gonna further comment on this. LIke I said before, if you want a quality product, you're gonna have to pay big bucks.

Can anyone here tell me what country or planet the video or film shooting is 20fps?
I think world's actual economy is affecting brains all around the world...
Are people at Canon out of thier F* mind? I wouldn't even look at any especification on a wierd camera that only shoot at 20fps. A wise advise is even delete this thread.

So forget Canon for now. The D90's jello is just too much for me to handle, because when you face the facts, you can't always pan that slow, it just limits you too much. But the crop factor of the lumix is a pain in the but for anyone who can't afford a fast 18mm lens....

Hopefully Nikon can release something in the near future, otherwise it looks like waiting for the scarlet will be the best option. the 7000 $ option...

is that a real woman holding it .. or one of those fem-bots??? i'm still holding out for the panasonic... i think the canon 500 = FAIL ,, i just don't see that the lack of 24/25/30p with manual overides on exposure/iso/shutter speed will be left off DSLR for ever...at some point it will be on them..and who ever makes the 1st one that caters for "our" consumer base will roll in the sales, so why not do it now?? be the 1st rather than the last... it IS gonna happen at some point.

i sell Dslrs at work , and almost everyone i speak too say they need something to last 10+ yrs ect .. meaning a DSLR isnt something they gonna update often , i see the manufactures needing something up their sleeve to temp us to upgrading, but then they have lost my sale NOW whilst i wait,,,and wait...and wait.

anyway.. if panasonic give the people what they want = EPIC WIN.

This reminds me of a few years ago when our minidv choices were the PD150 and Canon XL1. It took Panasonic to give us what we wanted with the DVX. Looks like Canon still hasn't learned from that experience to run with the ball and create a game changing indie filmmakers wet dream camera.

Help us GH1 you're our only hope. :)

The number one selling video camera is the ultra consumer Flip. I doubt they care much about the indie filmmaker at all. They will eventually come out with updated prosumer video cams that have been in the works for years now and maybe about to go into production. They aren't going to kill them by having their photo department destroy their video dept.

The machine is too big to stop and and change as fast as we want. This will take some time.

Papa, you really need to reconsider what you're saying about the 2x crop factor. If you think the d90's shallow DOF is good then in all likely hood you'll think the gh1's is just as good. I wish I could capitalize numbers but I'll say it again, it's 25% SMALLER than the d90. 25%??? Imagine going through a Mcdonalds drive through and they ask for .25 you can upsize, and you say "why not it's only .25". It's that insignificant. You can USE NIKON LENS ON THE GH1. Did you know the si-2k is a 2/3" chip and was it shot an OSCAR WINNING movie?? The gh1's 4/3rd is 3x's that of the 2/3rd. Google nikon lens on gh1 and you'll see just how nice the pictures are with Nikon lens. The only thing you're going to lose is extremely wide angle shots, which if you need, rent the damn lens.

Nikon 1.5x crop factor from FF 35
Gh1 2x crop factor. It's not a 2x crop from the d90, but from FF 35.

I think I know how mattias feels sometimes.
