Luis ... a lot of pricing talk seems to be on blogs, news articles or hearsay ... the only one I have seen that seems to be like a listed price is this french one

http://www.videoplusfrance.com/recherche?text=EOS_C300

edit:
says 12,000 euros before tax which is coincidentally pretty close to Philip Bloom's blog where he mentioned 13,000 euros, but maybe Philip saw the same french link

2nd edit:
what we don't know is how reputable this place is, would love a french shooter who is familiar with them to comment ...

I just paste my old comment:
14300€ including vat.
And until now, it was always the same for any electronic product. price in euro = US price in $. so I'm pretty sure it will be around 14300$ in the US, (edit: maybe just a bit more as it seems the only camera that contradict this rule is xf300). Just compare the french prices of the cameras on this website with the american ones and you'll see.
Sony F3 in france: 14000€, B&h: 14000$
AF100 in france: 4700€ vs 4700$ in B&h
Canon XF105 4000€ vs 4000$
etc etc"

and yeah videoplus is one of the main professional seller/rental in france. I bought some cameras from them. really serious.
tax is 20% in france or uk, so around 12000 before tax and 14300 after.

Can pretty much confirm too that it's parity 1 Euro = 1 USD for most products when it comes to sales of photo equipment. Sucks for the Europeans, but great when they buy in the States.

Canon price is still too high. What annoy me the most is maybe not the price, is the terrible compression noise i could see in all these video, in the dark areas... sorry bu my gh2 at few hundred bucks hacked do better!

Well, i have been making image for the cinema for 15years, if you are happy about the block compression of this footage , well good for you. Maybe it's only vimeo fault, but so far i have noticed the same thing on all c300 video sample, in the dark area, the gradation and grain are quite affected by the compression...

just download the mxf that you can find here. are you really basing your compression analysis on some vimeo videos??

No but i can't see the mxf of this footage and i look at other vimeo footage, so affected by the same rule, they doesn't show that kind artifacts... But i will be the first to be happy to see if the C300 is able to offer a smooth fine grain tonal gradation other the all image, in most conditions with a Slog curve

Thanks ! This was the missing piece of information I'd been after. Gives a whole lot more credence and weight to the price.

The image does look good. The next question I would love to know from the director is how he feels it holds up in post, especially when he pushes the curves around compared to the F3. Very curious to see if the latitude gives enough headroom and how the transitions hold up in the darks (being only 8bit) by comparison...

But apparently you have never watched vimeo before? They are all horribly compressed. I can't wrap my head around the immense number of people who look at a little encode over Vimeo and make judgments over that... You really believe the C300 (or any other camera) makes that kind off compression as vimeo/youtube shows? Come on, really?

I've heard nothing but good things about the XF codec holding up well in post from those using it on the XF305 and 105.
Given that it's the same codec I suspect we should expect the same from the C300.

+1 as well...I've messed with the codec a lot and it held up under anything I threw at it.

Never use Vimeo to judge critically. The internal codec is more then enough for almost everyone's uses. If you need anything more then that to be happy, then there's a lot of other options out there. No sense in beating up on something you can't change and in reality isn't all that bad to begin with.

Well, technically it can if you put filters on the windows or make the subject bright enough to where it balances out with outside elements. But I understand the spirit of your comment.

Exactly...it's all lighting management. If you want a camera that can give you that image without the kind of lighting management described above, then don't buy the GH2, lol. Otherwise, it or any other camera is more then capable in the right hands to make an image like that.
