Dvxuser harsh critics strike again. Chewed up & spat out. After all we've been seeing identical montages like this for 3 years now.
Actually when I saw the fair-ground rides I was reminded of a certain other first footage video from a few years back - I forget which dslr it was

edit:
to be fair - the first shot was breathtaking. If only the sun was higher and glinting off the water we could get a better idea of DR

The interview with Anthony Dod Mantle was very interesting. Goes to show to some people here that the top cinematographers don't really care about specs, only the image. He didn't mention specs once, only referred to the small size, highlight capabilities and high ISO.

Nice.

I must say that was horrid. Why would any company want to make a cheap institutional with a useless 'cameraman' to promote their new cine camera? I wish I hadn't seen that...

There's a point to these kinds of montages, and it's to shoot very complicated imagery and show how the camera stands up. I don't know what you're looking for from a "test", but apparently it's not what really matters when evaluating a camera's performance.

Well, there's a reason why cinematographers exist, and its certainly not to do tests!

I don't know what you mean by this. Do you think the only thing he ever shoots is tests?

Plus, this is more cost effective than setting up an entire shoot just to show off the capabilities of a camera.

Yeah, I agree - that was a refreshing take on the camera. Good to know that there are other's that care about the same things I do!

Euro prices usually include a hefty VAT tax, though.

I would just wait for US pricing, which might come this week according to Filmtools.

Didn't mean to stir the pot. Was just saving some people (us dumb Americans) the time to hop over to a currency converter.

Luis ... a lot of pricing talk seems to be on blogs, news articles or hearsay ... the only one I have seen that seems to be like a listed price is this french one

http://www.videoplusfrance.com/recherche?text=EOS_C300

edit:
says 12,000 euros before tax which is coincidentally pretty close to Philip Bloom's blog where he mentioned 13,000 euros, but maybe Philip saw the same french link

2nd edit:
what we don't know is how reputable this place is, would love a french shooter who is familiar with them to comment ...

Is that website indicating that with tax it is 14000 Euro?

Well, seems like the new canon will be a bit more than I wish to pay. Which is fine. This was one of the more entertaining threads I've participated in in a while. Thank you to all those that sincerely added their input! =)

Knowing that I will not be purchasing, I leave this to those still in the running. If anyone in North Carolina gets one and needs a steadicam operator/owner, let me know! I'd love to see how she handles.

Thanks again everyone!

The thing that sucks for me here, with this camera, is it's not shipping until the end of January. I start shooting at the beginning of February. Anybody know how to convince Canon to let a few go early so we can shoot with them? Otherwise it's a Scarlet-X.

I consider myself a RED fan, I have a Scarlet X on order. But RED is not the best company to keep on a timeline. Consider a FS/AF 100 maybe?

Not that I am trying to talk you out of it, but if time is needed, you may want to have a back up plan.

I've been thinking about the AF100 with an external recorder and 4:2:2 or the F3... not sure which direction to go. F3 is clearly a better camera, but it's $25k with all the add-ons (Recorder and S-Log).
