Canon 1D MarkIV

how's that film coming along johnny?

Pretty good, I'm trying to develop a 15-20min short that makes sense as a set-up/prequel to run the festival circuit. Just remember May 25, 2025... a(nother) day that will live in infamy (not the projected release date LOL, but the day the short takes place)

You can rest assured the 60D will ship in quantity.

Man I hope you're right, I'm tired of waiting!
GH1 = not available. 5Dmkii = too expensive IF the 60D has better or even equal video quality.

Can we even be sure that one of the new Canon SLRs will shoot 24fps?
I could imagine Canon will keep feeding us 30fps on these in order not to lose potential customers for their upcoming pro camera series.

I used the 5D Mark II for a short film which was shown on the big screen this year, it definitely can hold up with the big guns but I wouldn't want to shoot a feature with it, too much hassle.

What Canon upcoming pro camera series???

I'm sure they must have something on the works but this kind of rationality is like waiting for the Scarlet; until someone has a functional camera on their hands it's just hopeful thinking.

btw, I've hold a Scarlet prototype (the same old one most people have seen it in Vegas or in pics on the web) yesterday after a presentation from RED at Pixar Animation Studio in Emeryville, CA and it looks and feel very nice, but it's a aluminum box shaped like a camera.

Did you rattle it to see if there's anything inside?

I'm not sure canon are going to make a big sensor pro camera. People who shoot "pro video" aren't generally interested in shallow DOF. It all depends on how big they think this niche market is

I agree that the 'Pro-Video' market is not particularly interested in shallow DOF - but they would be interested in the low light capabilities and the noiseless high ISOs.

(?)

I don't know about that. A lot of tapeheads I know have bought 35mm adapters for when they need a more filmic look. It may not be their bread and butter ENG stuff, but they like to have the option.

Be nice!!! Vidiots need love too. I know for a fact that many of my corporate clients like big and clunky...money well spent. ;-)

I hate waiting! So I hope a "Complete filmmaker" Cam shows up soon. (That I can afford)

As much as I liked Transformers for the action beating it gave me I needed to go and rent a few flicks that had a "story". I must be old but I really like flicks like Sling Blade, The Shining, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Am I lost in a time gone by? I hope not.

. Am I lost in a time gone by?

yeah but the next gen of DSR's will change all that.

I watched the shining again recently. I was staying in a remote cabin and I hadn't seen another person for weeks, there was nobody around to redrum!

Actually... in some tests I saw online the 5d trounced the mkIV for lowlight grain... but this was a stills comparison.

Perhaps it all changes when it comes to video.... lemme see if I can find that test if its not already posted somewhere in this thread....

I was just in Vegas for NAB, then stayed to shoot the orange carpet for the Country Music Awards at MGM. Saw lots of Mark IV's outside, and in the press room. I only asked a few people, but among them were members of Getty and AP. Seems to be the consensus that the 5d rules for video, but the 10 frames per second burst for stills from the Mark IV was the deciding factor for some of the photojournalism folks, and they can still turn very respectable video clips for the occasional multimedia piece when needed.

My tax return is going to a 5d though.
