Blackout-Powell Native 24p Patch - GH1 FTW!!!

Thank you

Thank you

Thanks for the detailed instructions. When I did this first time, I didn't click the B button.

AVCHD/SH and MPEG modes work fine. In FHD camera states that that it is not able to write in the card fast enough. I use Transcend 16GB class 10 cards.

Somebody suggested to change GOP from 12 to 15. I did that, and now FHD also works.

Thanks!

Pekka

No, those instructions will not install the Blackout-Powell Native 24p Patch. To do so, download the zipped patch file from the link in the first post of this thread. Unzip the patch INI file into the same folder as PTool 3.51d. Then launch PTool and load the Panasonic firmware for your camera. You can then simply click the "B" button in the lower half of the main PTool window to patch the firmware with the complete Blackout-Powell Native 24p Patch. After doing so, click the Save Firmware button to save a copy of the patched firmware BIN file on your computer. Copy this firmware BIN file to the root folder of an SD card, and use it to update the firmware on your camera.

Hi!, I have a problem. if it is not the place to be discussed, sorry. I tried almost all patches. While playing the mjpeg recorded videos ( both pal-ntsc) on computer, after 4-5 seconds, the audio goes away in every 2 seconds. it sounds intermittently. there is no problem at images but only in audio. Also, while playing on camera itself, there is no such problem. the audio is mellifluous. I have tried almost all kinds of mts players on computer. The results does not change? What can be the reason? Please help...

Now I am using B-P N 24p patch. It is amazing. to me the best pacth for avchd.

This patch as well as several others have worked great for me in nearly all conditions until I attach the 7-14mm lens. Is is the in-camera corrections, or that it is taking in so much information? With this lens I cannot shoot a hacked bitrate higher than 22-24 Mb/s for more than just a couple seconds. Any other lens, no problem. Thought it was just when at the wider end of the lens, though today had an issue with it set at 14mm. If I out in sunny weather, especially when I am on the boat where you can see lots of moving water, can barely get a second in before it fails. This is with Transcend Class 10, and Pany Class 10 - both of which work great for crazy high bitrates with any other lens. I guess the only time I had issues with other lenses is with SH mode and lots of light glimmering off moving water. Tried looking in this thread, as well as others, to see if others have encountered the same results, though seems to be little to no mention of this. Maybe I'm missing it. Generally just use the 7-14 on my GH2 now, or just for stills on the GH13. Had to use it today on the GH13, so shot at the lower H mode that I have set at 24 Mb/s or so.

If your lens is really, seriously sharp, you will overload the camera, also if you have a sharp lens and increase the DOF to say ~F8. It just so happens that the 7-14 is a sharp lens, so cool, that is a great lens. Now with a really sharp fast prime, you can open the iris and still shoot at a high bit rate because only part of the image is in focus. Since many ppl using this cam want the shallow DOF, it is no problem
Also, you can just untick 24p and it will run like a rock. Personally, I like the 24p because the pulsing disappears and the image is amazing, but it is a small difference, I have many good videos where I applied the pulldown in post to get 24p.

I did everything in the hack 24p; works fine in AVHCD fhd mode but in mjpeg hd mode I do not get 24p - but get 30p. Any guess why? I used the "b" setting too.

Dear all, does the video look kinda patchy (background) especially for night time? Day time looks fantastic on this BP hack, but night time seems to be another story. I set the camera into Shutter Priority and set the shutter speed at 160 and ISO800. Is it normal?

Thanks for the info. Do understand that having a lot in focus and very sharp is more to encode, though can have other lenses closed down to f8 or 10 and not encounter this. Also, really keen on keeping it in 24p, as that is what I shoot with on the GH2 and just makes everything a tad easier, though must say, if I untick the native 24p patch, I can just drop the 60i files into my 24p timeline in Premiere CS5 and have auto pulldown removal. Might actually consider going back to this. Since I got the 7-14, havent tried any patched without the native 24p checked. Good advice! Thanks!

I have tested CS5 extensively with the auto 60i/24p pulldown, and it just is not the same quality as doing a proper pulldown or Cineform codec. It plays OK, it looks OK, but it does not, at least on my machine, render out OK. But hey, even Neoscene will do the trick. Would love to get one od those 7-14 someday!

This sounds like your computer has a video synchronization or playback problem. As the videos play back properly in-camera, it is very unlikely to be a problem related to the GH1 patch itself.

On Panasonic G-series cameras, MJPEG mode is set to always record at 30fps, regardless of whether it's operating in NTSC or PAL modes. More details can be found in the user manual.

I don't have a manual sorry.

But I'm reading between the lines of what you are saying there is still a hardware limitation on getting 24p mjpeg to work with the hack. yes?

What are you noticing upon rendering out? Also are you outputting to H.264? Do you have the "use previews" option checked? Before I used the 24p native patch, I edited several videos this way, and noticed no issues. Even compared some exports with original footage to see if there was any loss of resolution. Could not find any loss of details even when zooming in on the footage. Not trying to argue about it, just curious to know, as I was just about to disable the 24p patch, though am not second guessing.

The two things I noticed were jaggies on straight lines and pulsing in static areas. Also, material around bright lights, like a lamp, looked weird. All problems went away using cineform or the native 24p. I was outputting to H264. This was on "one take" footage, no editing. But if you are editing, you are cutting into the pattern, if that makes any sense.
I would say if you take a lamp and some straight and curved line material (like a lamp on a piano) and you have zero issues, then you are probably OK. Some people have had good results doing the PD in After Effects, then bringing it into Premiere. I could see doing that, maybe with a non lossy codec. But for now, I will stick to Cineform or Native 24p as I don't want to examine my vid all the time to see if it has issues.

you don't need to read BETWEEN any lines, just read his first line. ;) ---> YOU CANNOT GET 24p WHEN SHOOTING MJPEG ON A GH1! only 30p. there is no 24p mjpeg possible. hack or no hack.

Gotchya.. will runs some tests first if I end up unchecking the native 24p mode. In the meantime will probably just use the 7-14 on the GH2 when shooting video

Hi, it's first time post here but I am long time follower: )
I made short movie of my weekend in Paris with my girlfriend with Your native 24p patch.
All clips are Fhd only first shot of clouds is Mjpeg 1920/720.
Anyone who want to see what this hack can do I invite to watch of course it is only 10000kbps for vimeo so it's nowhere near out of camera quality (if anyone could advice my how to get better result on vimeo with their requirements, regarding render settings...would be great...).
Thanks to Vitaliy Kiselev and settings developers Lpowell and Blackout.

is this less reliable than the reliable in camera playback patch? I have read so much of this thread and understood so little but reliability is key to me
