A7s sample footage

As always, Stu's grading is really inspiring! If he says you can push the footage (even shot in those bad conditions) that is reassuring.

Damn you Stu, damn you all for making me want this camera so bad !! :Drogar-Love(DBG):
I'll have to put the trigger next week...

Is it just me or do the skin tones look off? I feel like both the GH4 and A7s have poor skin tones :(

I'm sure it comes down to finding the right settings for different shooting conditions. This is where I think vmd shines for me.

More like all over the place. The abundance of green bounce doesn't help either. The camera seems to pick it easily.
Also, color space choice in camera seems to affect them. S-gamut coupled with a non s-log gamma looks funny on skin from what I've seen.

Cinema 5D review:

The Sony A7 camera family is constantly growing and the new kid on the block is dedicated for video filming. My respect to Sony for listening to professionals and advanced hobbyist alike by bringing to the market what I consider to be the best full frame HD “DSLR” camera released in a long time. Unfortunately when conducting this review no 4K external recorder was available for testing the 4K video quality but let me tell you, the HD footage coming out of this camera is shockingly impressive. For me, if it is to choose between the Panasonic GH4 or the Sony A7s, then with no doubt, it’s the A7s. The picture aesthetic in combination with full frame is simply more pleasant to my eyes then the GH4 footage. On the other hand, internal 4K recording is what we want (and sometimes need), so I guess we can consider the A7s as a “bridge camera” and it won’t be long before we will see a Sony camera that can do so for a hopefully attractive price.

I also have to had that the audio recorded directly to the A7s is much better then the one recorded on the Mark III because of better internal preamps.

Nice! That winery film was a comfort to see. I read the article and he said he didn't use any picture profile, so the dynamic range could have been even better....and it still looked great, grade preferences aside. Now if only UPS could figure out how to get my camera here. First go around was my fault with the wrong address. Round 2? Train derailment (hope everybody is ok).

Somebody obviously really does not want you to get that camera ;)

LOL, no doubt! Next it will be "your package was hit by a stray meteorite, we're very sorry for the delay". -Hugs, UPS

Btw, someone was concerned about green skin tones on this one. The cast is not hard to remove, even on the compressed footage. girl original.jpg girl adjusted.jpg

Felt like sharing...just shot my first wedding last night with 2 A7s cameras. LOVED IT! There was a moment when I was secretly so proud of these little monsters. There were fireworks in the distance and I was shooting the couple watching them. We were in this dark corner of the venue (only spot where fireworks were visible in the sky) and I cranked it up to ISO 64,000. Looked AWESOME. Well, the fireworks were average, but the shot was great. The photographer was right there with her 5DIII and kept saying "I'm all the way up to ISO 25,000 so I don't know about this" I smiled knowing that even at ISO 64k, my shot was killin' it. I showed the couple after and the groom (who was a photographer who'd actually appreciate a camera looking good at that high of an ISO) and he said "holy crap!" I was proud.

The Bloom 7 GB file must have had some post noise reduction/filtering on the portrait shot because it looks very plastic if you know what I mean. Some kind of softening filter perhaps? Surely it didn't come out of the camera like that? Anyone else see this? I hope that is the case because the Den Lennie shoot had none of that look.

The winery shoot was just plain wonderful - helped me consider this cam more. Very sharp no-nonsense high end image. Very excited about this cam

The LED left what appears to be a colour cast on the right side of Philip's face, perhaps conflicting with the ambient daylight colour temperature? The LED appeared to cast a yellow tone when viewed on my monitor. Or my recent monitor calibration may be off.

Viewed pixel for pixel ( view- normal size CTRL-1 on Windows ) using Quicktime it appears especially on winkles on his forehead. Looks in a way like a this

Like a vey low level Topaz effect. Hope that if it is in camera that a different profile or setting can get rid of it. Not a biggy but interesting to see what low compression looks like

about the "now i can see" video:

unfortunately the dynamic range is very poor, and "now i cannot see",

or better saying: now I can see the other side of the moon, but the first side is gone

before a7s I had the good highlights and dark shadows
now with the a7s I have the shadows but the lights are gone, blown out forever

at 1:01 the carroussel is ok, but the faces are dark, more DR please.

we need a camera which can merge the 1:15 image with the 1:20 image into an extended dynamic range image to show the lights without clipping and the sea together.

at 1:58 I would like to see the buildings without clipping, more DR please...

at 2:03 i would like to see the fire and face without clipping while lit the cigarrette, more DR please.

just look at the 2:25 image. where are the buildings? more DR please.

what about the 2:39 image? "total clipping of the heart"

"total clipping of the heart"
(Blowout Tiler)

turn around every now and then
I get a little DR and know I've got to get out and cry
turn aound every now and then
I get terrified about low light but then I can't see the sky

turn around every now and then
sony got my money but gave me a clipping background
turn around every now and then
I ask where is DR because it is so easy to increase the pixel count

turn around bright eyes
don't forget to see the dark parts
turn around bright eyes
don't forget to see the lights

And i need more DR tonight
An i need it more than ever
and if DR is so tight
we will be ML HDR forever

and we'll only make it right
when we have more dynamic range
because the beach is bright
but the background is so strange

I really need you tonight
HDR is a must tonight
HDR is a must daylight

Once upon a time there was a hidden dark face of the moon
But now the bright face is blown away
Nothing I can say
A total clipping of the heart

Once upon a time there was light in my life
But now there's only sony in the dark
Nothing I can see
A total clipping of the heart

This is just silly. you cant expect DR on high ISOs.
