A7s sample footage

It will probably be awesome, but that YouTube video in the dark is tough to judge with. Even when I set it to 4K, there's still tons of Macro-Blocking from web compression.

But the 2nd video looks awesome. The best Low-Light I've ever seen. Put that sensor in an FS700 and it will rule.

Like virtually all stuff shot in the dark it comes out colorless, lifeless, with little DR. Nice that it can capture an image, but I would rather see what it can do properly exposed in good light at normal silicon sensitivities for good color and DR, 200-800 ISO.

I agree the color and overall energy of the image is lacking, but little Dynamic Range? Did you see the highlight retention from inside the lantern? Did you also happen to notice how much detail there was in the blacks? Dynamic range describes the ratio between maximum and minimum light intensities. Making that test an incredibly difficult situation for ANY camera to capture and is quite a good example of effective dynamic range where it counts!

I wish we could see more from this camera, just three videos and a few stills - yet another Sony marketing blunder. There should be a couple dozen 4k videos and tons of low light samples by now, don't get the silence form the big S and this is a game changer. My order is in...

I agree. I really expected more footage to roll out. Fstop Academy's Den Lennie was working on a GH4 A7s comparison video with side by side samples and had posted he hoped to have it finished over a week ago and still nothing. seems weird for a camera launch especially with such stand out features.

Haha! Don't get me wrong...I am a RED fan, I own and shoot RED cameras....but the Scarlet Dragon is rolling out now....people are purchasing, upgrading....ect....and there has not been a single image generated by one. Interesting that lots of people would spend 17K on a camera...and has not seen anything past its specs on paper.

Not implying any negativity towards RED at all. Just an observation and puts things in perspective.

I do plan on purchasing an A7s if it look as though it will live up to its expectations. I would lock it in now if there was just more video content online. The few images I have seen are good...I like the look and specs...but I need to see some consistent results. Thats also the same reason I have not sent my Scarlet in to be Dragonized yet. There are things beyond specs in an image...thats what I am interested in.

If those videos aren't fakes than that is absurdly good. Astonishing really.

For indie guys it will save you a fortune on lighting.

Would be extremely useful for wedding guys shooting indoor stuff. It's small, unobtrusive and no need to slap one of those annoying LED lamps on your camera any more.

Once they get this sensor into a more professional body/form factor that will be one hell of a camera. As is, it's still pretty amazing.

What can a heavy compressed 360p online video show us concerning codec quality, resolution and noise of a 4k recording?
Answer for yourself...

Me, personally, I like to wait for some original footage before judging. Yes, it seems to be a lowlight monster - but for the
rest I can't say anything yet.

Different market/users and vastly different sales volumes. Plus look at the A7/r push, Sony had bloggers in Iceland and California shooting with the cameras and hyping them up. There were a ton of reviews for the A6000 before release. Same goes for the RX1, but the A7s has been silent since the huge NAB announcement. There was a lot of excitement after NAB, and Sony failed to capitalize on that over the last 6 weeks, a steady stream of high quality samples would have built the hype and may have even let some of the wind out of the GH4.

Agreed on all fronts.

I think this is an issue of Louis CK's "of course but maybe" theory: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkjmzEEQUlE&feature=kp

Of coarse Sony is going to deliver exactly what they say they will. They are a huge company with a successful record of delivery. The camera looks to be "amazing" on all fronts...and of course it will be what it is claimed to be...

..."but maybe" everyone one will receive a box with a shrink wrapped 5 year old 5D Mark II and that famous picture of Johnny Cash' middle finger saying "enjoy, love Sony" underneath.

Not sure if this one has been posted before. Some real world shooting scenarios shown...

Unfortunately that entire "Behind the Scenes" piece was shot on an F5.

Well, I thought it was being cited as an example of the image quality of the A7S, so if that's the case, then yes.
