A7s sample footage

it's here
good hands-on info

like:
* APS-C 1080p has aliasing/moire, and it becomes pretty bad at 60p
* the image lines up very well with FS700 in terms of sharpness and DR
* expect 8-bit to be somewhat problematic with slog2

go fs700 forum there u can read one of the a7s user talking about crop mode with a7s will give alliasing and moire. So for the best result use full frame better, just in some case you want make it more zoom with your lens, then crop mode is the choice.

It is very interesting to see how fast disinformation spreads...

If any of you recall sony's marketing material(available all over the web), they clearly state there is no line skipping / binning(aliasing, moire) in 4k, 1080p FF AND 1080p APSC while operating in 24-30fps modes. So the op seeing moire/aliasing at 60p in ANY mode should not come as a surprise.

Couple more days and more of these shitty lowlight tests. We get it, its a monster. Show us a DR comparison goddammit

I agree...is it too hard, for a major camera release, to set up a few lights and just shoot something that resembles any type of real life production. I have been planning on picking up this little rig, but man, maybe this thing only shoots in the dark. Yes its awesomely impressive. I would love to see how it is used in other production environments.

The latest DR report is also a little disheartening. I believe it got rated at 13.2 stops. 2 under what Sony claims. I believe that is for stills. Anyone know any info for DR in video mode? Starting to think this little fella might not surpass the C100. Any thoughts? Opinions?

Interesting. Hard to tell much - the fast frame rate stuff implies that this is shot at 720 (for 120fps)? I guess it could be 60p or twixtor. Hard to tell with they daylight stuff total quality because of the shutter angle - night stuff looks pretty good.

+1

The one thing it does show is impressive sharpness, something the A99 and A7 seriously lacks. The 20th and the day my A7s arrives can't come soon enough.

I found the night shots to be more useful. The headlight roll off was not bad. I also assume this was natively shot in 1080P. Looking forward to some more 4K examples. Not bad 1080P.

I stand corrected. Sorry. I totally forgot about that footage. Plus, I had only seen the :40 sec version, not the 2:49 I just watched.

The noise at 400K iso is just unacceptable!

I'm totally kidding of course. This vid may have tipped the scale for me. I shoot a lot of live events. The low light ability and being able to handle the LED color rendition of the building looks pretty great. The 5D3 would have totally lost it...blown it all out.

And I do think that's relevant - a lot of 5DIII owners are the ones that are going to be asking "is this a replacement for my camera" (including myself) since it's in the same price segment and sensor size. At the end of the day, that's what I'm trying to determine - is this a good replacement for my 5D, which I like the look of but am a bit unsatisfied with the level of detail/clarity.

My normal rig for live events is a Scarlet, C100/ninja, and a 5D as a "crash cam" if needed. Over the years, I really shy away from using any 5D footage. It just can not handle concert lights at all. It blows a lot out, loses lots of details, and is extremely soft.

I am torn because I have a bunch of the new speed light 600s. I just realized I can use an adapter on the shoe mount and use those flashes with the A7s. So looks like crash cam is now get'n the boot. Should be a nice little upgrade. I dig the 60P in 1080 as well. Kinda bummed with the C100 on that end.
