A7s sample footage

I think Sony is evaluating how to postion against the GH4, plus the Atomos may not be ready by the expected release date. They talked more about the camera at CineExpo last weekend.

I don't think that this camera make only sence with an external recorder.
Not quite understand why Sony is keeping so much silence around it if the camera has the potential they claim for but they always have been passable to promote their product in my opinion

Unfortunately that entire "Behind the Scenes" piece was shot on an F5.

I am pretty sure people are intelligent enough to discern which shots are from the people recording the shots of people holding the a7s and those that are being shot WITH the a7s. The lower third titles in the key shots might help the others having difficulty discerning the a7s shots.

This is going to be an excellent documentary camera.

+1, that's a big part of the reason why I ordered one. I'm shooting a doc in the fall, going to spend the summer shooting commercials and corporate videos to decide whether to keep this and the GH4 or go all-in on the FE cameras (selling the GH4 for a second A7s as a backup) and legacy glass since I already own the A7.

If only half of these tests were worth something, not sure the comparaison with gh4 is actually something i could trust

Agreed. The exposure looked a little off to me but I still appreciate seeing at least some more footage from the A7s

I would like to see A7s HD vs GH4 4K (downscaled) as they are both their best native recording modes.

I agree..I wish they would just render out some solid examples in properly lit environments so we can just see the aesthetics of the image with its best foot forward. Its nice to have some more videos out there...just not sure how useful they are. I really don't want to see another image of a plant. A cinematic moment or a bands performance would be much more useful to me.

The comparison seems suspicious. There's no difference in perspective between the two cams as there should be with a full frame and micro 4/3. Also its hard to believe that these are the first folks with the shogun. Sounds like click bait.

The DOF seems almost identical - that combined with the same perspective and FOV makes it seem like something's not right here considering the difference in sensor sizes.

Maybe they were clever and used a 25mm f/5.6 on the GH4 and a 50mm f/11 on the a7s: those would give you the same FoV and DoF in both cameras, and you just need a couple of stops of ND to bring exposure together. Different brands usually have different exposure so that wouldn't be weird. And the a7s seems to have slightly more contrast than the already very contrasty GH4, but maybe they used some pretty contrasty settings.
Or maybe they were too clever and just posted some random images taken with other cameras to get people to click on their vid. They have reposted this here, so it's a possibility.

Maybe (on the first thing) but then we're getting into comparing different focal length lenses (and at different f stops!) which pretty much negates the results anyway.

I call BS on the A7s/GH4 comparison, the blown highlights on both sides look GH4 all the way. Until I see a still of both cams shooting the same scene, not a believer, this is click bait.

50mm on a FF doesn't look EXACTLY the same as a 25mm on M43 at the equivalent F-stop, its close but these are just too similar. I did a little test with a 50 and 105mm Nikkon lens, the 50 on the GH4 and the 105 on the A7, even after adjusting the tripod a bit - I couldn't get them to look that close. I tried again with the 12-35 set at 25/2.8 (shot a still till I got it right at 25) and with the A7 kit at 50/5.6 (again shooting shooting stills till exif showed 50mm) and it still looks different.
