Dillont,

I think/hope Jim will agree when I say that RED's goal is NOT to replace film.. It's to offer film makers and various shooters another choice in the tools they use to create their art.

If you see advantages to using RED over traditional film, that's great.. But one does not have to be better than the other for you to make that choice.. We need to respect everyone's position and choice of medium.. It makes for a happier world.

Hi Jay,

I totally hear where you're coming from, and I agree. I love the organic look and feel of film. It, I think, adds to that magical element of film that we all strive to create.

The RED camera creates an image that is obscenely clean (as I've just witnessed). It's disturbing. My first instinct is "where's the grain!?". My 2nd thought is - wow, I have control over the grain now!

When I buy into the RED system, I'll be keeping this in mind - I'll be adding that flawed filmic look to every frame I create. I love the fact that now I have the option to control that.

I'm sorry. I just grown up since I was a kid, believing and hoping that "video" would some day be a viable alternative to film. That day has come.

No hard feelings :)

I just saw it! Jim you rock! This footage is incredible. I love the way the back frames fall so much out of focus, the way the light rolls off the edges. I feel like I'm an aspiring race car driver who has been driving Geo Metros his whole life, and is now looking at picture's of the Ferrari he's going to get...

Dillon,

I'm with you on this one. There is something surreal in the flaw of film that video has never even come close to...until now possibly. With this much resolution i have a feeling we will be able to manipulate to our hearts content.

As I see it, we all win. Hands down.

I'm officially over my head.

I'm in line to get one of these cameras and my skill set is beyond sub-standard since I'm really a director/producer.

Please tell me there will be plenty of REDuser.com Bootcamps for me to attend. :) That's a lot of resolution for me to screw up with.

That boat is gonna fill up quick. I want a seat in the bow. :)

i really understand what everyone was saying about the RED creating an image unlike anything else. it doesn't look like film...it's unique. and beautiful. i just put my quicktime on repeat and stare at it :)

...and as normal, a mirror from me.
(sorry it's late this time)

Both to original and the blow-up.

...my school is going to kill me  - but it's their fault for blocking my access to my personal server.

I missed the HVX bootcamps because I never stepped up, but I'm willing to prepay to get on the "boat" for RED bootcamp. :)

Wow I'm so happy I checked the board before bed. Good God Jim. What have you guys done. and only at 1K Wow. Thanks Brook and everyone that is mirroring I tryed the RED page way to slow. But thats a good thing. I think your servers are going to be smoking in the morning. Very nice stuff. I can't wait to see the outside stuff or even 2K stuff. I really liked how shallow the DOF was. Wow you weren't kidding about 35mm response.

I have a piercing question.

When history is in the making, when is it safe to go to sleep?

*sigh*

I can't believe how revolutionary this is. Thank you, Jim.

*going back into lurk mode*
