It's not that I would say not to additional functionality, but have you guys ever actually used a peaking function that worked?

The peaking options on the C100 (with different modes and colors) didn't add anything for me over what I already saw with the naked eye on the monitor.

Granted, I don't use glasses. I can see some real benefit for people who see better at greater distances, but struggle, or simply don't have tack sharp vision, at close range.

The main problem is the nature of contrast detection. In wide shots I constantly get in focus indication on far away objects with great contrast, whereas closer objects that actually are in focus don't show the peaking. In close ups it's normally obvious what's in focus and what's not,

Actually you CAN trigger video recording by using the WFT-E6 unit, as well as adjusting exposure settings and live preview (2-3fps), the same as 1D X.

Do you mean WTF-E6 give you extra function to trigger video itself or it come with the extra app instead of just adding wifi connection to the camera?

I have no problem connecting to a portable mobile pocket router via Lan (that cost only 1/5 of the price or the WFT-E6) and controlling it, but it only work if you have a computer( PC or MAC) using EOS Utility, but a computer is not too operable when you are by yourself and shooting guerrilla style one hand holding a 2m high monopod in the middle of an excited crowd. WFT server mode is ok for still it just it do not give me a video start /stop button like 6D's remote app.

I am looking at this http://www.manfrotto.hk/deluxe-electronic-remote-control-for-canon-hdslrs-mvr911ejcn but do not seems to support 1DC, I only need a wired remote of about 2-3m length for focus and start stop video. I have bought different EVF or mon ( 2"-9") for the video in the past few years. so I am fine with viewing.

Anyone know if the 3 standard ones from Canon can start/stop video and focus for the 1DC, I cannot find their manual to DL?

My main requests that I already passed along were:

1. Playback over HDMI when in mirroring. (having to disable mirroring to give your director playback on monitor is the absolute biggest pain in the butt with this camera!!)
2. Overlays available over hdmi when in mirroring
3. Peaking
4. Waveform
5. 4K 30p (or 60p if possible...but at least 30p would give us a tad slomo at full rez)
6. Better implementation of the WFT-E6...more like C300. I rented one for a pilot I shot with the camera and gave up on it during day 1...too finicky for my taste..maybe better with new firmware?? this was just before NAB

Just wondering What additional thing can the WFT-E6 do with the C300?

I like 4K 30P too.

After playing with the 1DC for 5 months now I am starting to get know how to best use it, If for pure video C100 or C300 is more usable.

A few people I know love it, but I have never found it useful.

It's WFT not WTF :-o

When you set up the WFT-E6 unit, it will create an ad hoc wifi connection (you can connect it with any Windows laptop/tablet or Ipad, Android is NOT supported atm).

when you establish the connection, enter a predefined IP address and you will see a web interface (similar to EOS utility on PC/MAC), you have live preview, exposure control, focus (USM lens), video start/stop, for C100/300/500, you can also control ND filters with this web interface.

If you want a wired one, none of the Canon standard remote controls can do focus, you might want to take a look at two products made by Okii. It uses Canon's USB protocal for extensive camera control.

For close or eye distance object peeking is not much use, but for tele using 70-200 or 500 reflector, I wish I have something, zebra will be fine,

Sometimes peeking will be useful.

Been shooting with C-log without external EVF, and going off the histogram, and then eyeballing after 'record'. Most of the time it isn't an issue.
Enjoying the synthetic light look here in the city. I catch myself from saying 'natural light' mid sentence, and say available light.

in the yellowish one, letting the tinted flo 'bulbs' retain some of their greenish tint. So it is more of a green gold, than the usual warmth of low watt incandescents. I do want to get better at exposing under pure red light, I feel my spidey sense is less effective, even if it is essentially the same as everything else. But the cool thing is, the green channel is always there to save the day, if you clip in red light. I didn't use it in the pic above, but it needed some.

Rainy daylight mixed with tinted flow in bg.
(sorry instagram square format, but not filtered, c-log corrected)

Exposure: Picture Styles vs View Assist.

My experience with c-log has been fun. Definitely makes me want waveforms, but I would settle for zebras.

When I am filming with a picture style like neutral, and the image looks underexposed, I know that it isn't, and the shadow detail is still there. With View Assist, it is the other way around, when the image looks bright, and the highlights hot, they probably aren't.

I am probably expressing my internal thiniking subliminally regarding this WFT

After your suggestion, I try to check out WFT-server and EOS utility server by connecting with LAN to my Mac. I just cannot find a video start/stop button in the the WFT server screen for the 1DC. If you say it WFT-E6 works with 1DX, seesm like WFT-E6 may give it extra function or it behave differently on the 1DX and 1DC? Please can you help to check which is it or did I setup incorectly?

When in EOS Utility server mode connected via LAN all functions and setting are available including video start/stop button are ok, just that I need a WIn7/8 or OSX computer to get it working.

Also for information I got the 1DC start/stop video recording in various 1920x1080 modes on a app call DSLRCONTROLLER (10USD) for android that support 1DX and other EOS camera.
The problem is the app do not recognise the feedback code from the addition resolutions of the 1DC and deactivate the button. Actually this app is quite good for 5D2, 5d3, 1DX, it can have mask for Zebra and peek in focus mode, is quite a good 10USD investiment for my 5D2, I made a year ago. I will not say the app work perfectly and 100% stable, but sure is very usable beta product. A must have app if you are using a samsung or sony android phone that support USB host. I have mail them about the bug on 1DC, unlucky that the developer(Holland) is on vacation.

I have tested a few apps on android and OSX, none of them works with the 4K video Start/stop. Very likely many of those remote accessories that support 1DX may not support 1DC.

Could you enable liveview when you in WFT screen? when liveview is enabled you should be able to see a red dot and some arrow keys for USM focus stepping.

Dear Marvin

Yes liveview can be enable and no red dot. Just checked the manual for wired-lan say video is not supported:kali: just wondering is it a firmware problem or a 1DC problem? I am using 1.2.0 the old one.

Any chance you you have the manual for the WFT-E6? I do not seem to find its manual on my canon support site. Want to check what it say about remote video.

If remote video star/stop using WFTserver will work with connecting a WFT-E6, I will go to order one immediately.

Thanks

Dear Marvin,
I found the manual for 1DX+WFT-6E it say no video support. I know the difference between a c100 and a 1DC now

So is keep hunting for me again.

May be I have to dig my old pocket size Win7 PC out again

http://downloads.canon.com/cinemaeos/EOS_1DC_Brochure_011113.pdf

Read lower left corner on page 10, it specifically said that WFT-E6 can start and stop 1D C.

I believe video start/stop is only available to Cinema EOS line, including C100/300/500.

I'd love to see some of your guys/gals work, if you have a screen shot or two.

Very sneaky and may a design photo that do not exist.

"The EOS-1D C also has a system extension terminal that can connect to the optional Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E6A
unit to provide unique wireless capabilities not typically
available in cinema cameras. Users can control the EOS-1D C
using any web-enabled devices such as laptops, smartphones
and tablet PCs. Functions of the EOS-1D C with the WFT-E6A
unit include the ability to adjust shooting parameters, to start
and stop the camera, to monitor a remote feed and to input
metadata."

IT do not specifically say control video shooting on smartphone, it just say it can control the camera. Also it only say "start and stop the camera"

Wondering is anyone here a CPS member and can ask them to confirm?

Call Canon USA, they have a dedicated support hotline for Cinema EOS cameras, numbers can be found on the webpage.
