Thanks! Got a few questions.

Do many of you rent it out?
If so how often?

It's not a primary concern, but I wouldn't mind if it did some extra work for me.

At one point I thought I saw they were adding 120fps at 720 to the firmware. Did that every happen?

Also not a huge deal just thought I had seen that at some point!

Thanks!

I do not rent it, personally. Most people don't even know about it. The C300 is a name most people in the biz know, but I haven't met anyone who I haven't had to explain what it is.

No 120fps yet.

You know Sandisk just released a couple of new 1067x CF card with write speed up to 150MB/s and two CFast 2.0 cards with write speed up to 350MB/s, do you think Canon would increase the bitrate in 4K mode or even announce a service upgrade to make the CF slot 2.0 compatible?

I don't think it would be feasible for Canon to change the 1DC from Compact Flash to CFast, I think you'll have to wait for the 1DC Mk2 for that.

I need 4K 60fps! Canon please! Also focus assist in the viewfinder.

Hehe.

Well, considering that Canon was scratching its collective head on how to get from 24 to 25 fps, I think it's safe to assume that it won't happen in this camera!

But I am thinking that S35@60 should be possible—expecting the same sharpness as normal S35 1080p.

Shane Hurlbut has a nice writeup on setting up the 1D C; http://www.hurlbutvisuals.com/blog/2013/10/menus-for-cinematic-capture-on-the-canon-1dc/

Also, found on the Canon site that you can assign a function to the "set" button in "custom controls". Assigning the "zoom" function to the set button makes it easier to zoom for critical focus. Can keep your right hand on the right side of the camera for record, ISO, WB, etc. and easily and comfortably use your right thumb to press "set" to zoom in/out. That way your left hand stays on the focus and never has to leave to find the smaller fixed zoom button on the left side under the LCD. May be old news to some, but it was new to me and makes shooting solo so much easier.

Very cool. Yeah, I was happy to find that the magnify button could be repositioned. That was the first thing i did back in February.

The C user presets are great, but can be a little difficult to keep track of, and the fact that they are on the same button as record, it is a muscle memory nightmare. Wish the C presets could be assigned to another button, but I may change REC to something else. Also, wish there was a way to see which preset is in use on the lcd. Because when I am not in live view, if I accidentally hit the C button, then when I go to record, the settings are all off, and I may miss a shot or record with a weird setting.

Some of the implementations are still a bit 1dx, it will be an evolution to get more video centric.

It is nice to keep the shutter and REC as separate buttons, as it is nice to be able to pop off a still in live view. So, REC may have to move to the buttons near the lens. Really wish the LCD displayed the C-mode.

Have you noticed that, Shane dialed "Saturation" all the way down in Canon Log setting (-4 instead of default 0). I tried that before, although it's not monochrome, I find the colour is way to washed out. Maybe he did this to prevent colour banding?

I had never looked into that too deeply. I was under the impression that it was only affecting the view assist, yet Canon log was unchanged.

In Canon Log settings, the parameters do affect the image (same as picture style setting but minus "contrast")

I will play around with that. One friend said he didn't like C-log because it was too saturated (he was used to s-log), so something like that could help those people out. I just worked around c-log defaults.

1D-C is a low light beast!!!!

I prefer the overall feel of the f65 in this setup.

New talent

New talent

Hey eco. Nice! love the duo- great find. It is so inspiring to work with fresh talent.

This was the first vimeo that I watched on the new Haswell 15" MBPr. I have been using the 13" and was hoping that the new one had a discrete video chip because I love the form factor, but no way, so I picked up the 15 to try it out. I was afraid that I wouldn't like the weight ( I don't), but the larger screen is the ticket for us 1d c 4k shooters. It is just right to get a wide feel when viewing which I missed with the 13, and loaded with quad proc, 16gig and 1 tbyte ssd it should handle 4k in premier with the new update.

13" is on CL.

This is not going back.

hi lightstrum. Wonder can you play/edit the 4K mov file from 1DC directly with your new 15" MBP ? and also the 13"?

I had the REC button assigned to M-fn from day one, only problem is the side M-fn button stick out much more than the top one and it easily get accidentally triggered when moving around. I guess you have also set to start REC and LV together already?

PS no photo taking is allow in LV mode when 4K or C35 is selected. I really hate this, need to switch resolution before live view photo and keep forgetting to switch back to 4K afterwards.:crybaby:
