I keep hearing different explanations of how the audio channles work. Is there a way I can have an external mike plugged into one of the XLR cables that will take up two channels (left and right) and the internal mike take up the other channels (once again left and right)?
I've having issues copying over files to my computer. On rare days when I think I'll shoot over 20 minutes I bring a laptop for offload but normally I just plug the camera into my desktop via USB 2.0 and copy the files over so I can burn them on DVD and bring them into Avid. Recently however I...
Since there are apparently still a lot of people who don't know this:
At any point when connecting the camera to a PC or other firewire device don't plug the firewire in WHILE THE CAMERA IS ON? This is BAD!!! I've seen this fry numerous firewire ports in the past (including my poor little deck...
Ok, now I'm aware that the eye is less sensative to horizontal resolution. I'm also aware that because of this the cameras often subsample the horizontal resolution. That said, I'm still confused why the the various HD cameras, even some of the best, all seem to display less horizontal...
I learned to color correct largely in Discrete Combustion and while Avid Xpress Pro HD is similar in many respects other things are quite different (I'd kill for a histogram!!!). Are there any good tutorials on getting the most out of Avid's CC options?
I was doing some tests to try to see how much detail 1080p retains over 720p and I found something, the differences became ALOT more pronounced when I turned coring all the way off. Who else has noticed this? It seems like the difference between +2 and -2 (off) is quite massive. How much...
Something odd occured to me. I remember back when I played games more often (i.e. at all) there was a big deal made over a game running at 60fps instead of 30fps. Not, on a computer this makes perfect sense. Thinking in video terms though, something bugs me: we were all playing these things...
Went down to New Orleans recently to do some shooting. Wasn't able to do the lower wards unfortunatly since I couldn't find anyone to go with me and I didn't want to wander around down there alone with around 8k work of camera equipment.
The Lake shots are overly noisy since I must have hit...
Out of curiousity, what don't interval mode or 1 shot work in 24p? Is it something about the pulldown? Shouldn't they at least be able to work in 720 24pN since that just records pure frames? It's a shame as I'd really like to be able to do some timelapse stuff but it'll look odd at 30p when...
I remember reading in one of Barry's posts that when zoomed all the way out at 4.2mm (I think) the lense is going to be a bit soft. I'm curious when the lense is at its sharpest and thus what zoom levels are the best for the highest amount of resolved detail.
Been having some issues using Sorensen squeeze. The last few MPEGs I encoded I got an error message saying that progressive encoding wasn't possible (even though it was from the same QT as before, I just wanted to encode audio with it this time). Recently, it's also been giving me error...
I was fiddling around with the look of Black Hawk Down and Gladiator. Mixing a high shudder speed with that sandy look. I wanted to see how close I could get in camera. I like the look though I'm not sure how close I came. These are downrezed JPEGs from 1080p and have no CC though are a bit...
I'm sure this must have been covered before but I did two searches and didn't come up with anything. Why exactly did Panasonic remove the basic Cinelike gamma that we had in the DVX100(A)? Even though I didn't use it much, I liked it since it provide a good compromise between Cinelike D and...
Currently the only way I can get 1080 from my P2 is to go ahead and do 1080i59.94. Whether it be 24p or 24pA I can't get it either to work in a 1080p23.976 file. With tape stuff, Avid removes the pulldown as you capture based on your pulldown settings right? (I assume that that's how I've been...
I don't get it. We did 720p and everything was great. We had higher resolution but, MORE IMPORTANTLY, a progressive signal. No fields crap. No trying to figure out different ways to embed a progressive frame onto a 60i signal. None of it. Pure progressive.
So why in the hell did we go...
Finally got Barry's book and have been going through it page by page and experimenting. One thing that I'm still not clear on is the correlation between shutter speeds and frame rates in FILMCAM mode. If I turn the shudder off (just push the shudder button) then I see no difference in exposer...
