    Best Resolution for the HMC150?

I've seen a bunch of posts about actual resolution versus pixel shifted resolution. Which makes me curious. Considering most of my projects end up as 1280x720 or DVD anyway, the only "thing" I'm using the full HD setting for is to be able to crop as needed for proper framing and avoid losing...

    Slow Motion using interlaced fields?

I'm pretty sure I read in Barry's book on the DVX that one could shoot in 60i, do some magic, and see fields as frames so that 40% speed at 24p showed field by field, filled in to frame by frame. But for the life of me, I can't find anything about it now. In hoping it isn't specific to the...

HMC-150 and -40 and Timecode and Sony Vegas

For those interested in the issue where Sony Vegas cannot see the timecode in AVCHD files, we have a final answer from Support: ----- Thank you for your patience. Our development team let me know that AVCHD timecode (for camcorders that have this) is not something that is supported in Vegas at...

    Future of big sensors

CineAlta. RED, including 1 and Scarlet. 5D, 7D, T2i. Nikon. What's next? It seems that Canon's next generation of video camera (XH-A2?) will contain large sensors and the high technology of the new SLRs. Any buzz about when this will happen?

    HMC150, Metadata, and Sony Vegas

Back in the days of DV, importing captured media into a Sony Vegas project offered a usable feature - in the Project Media window, one could see the date/time stamp of a clip and therefore know when that clip was captured. It was very helpful when pouring over the myriad clips to find the one...

Scene File(s) - why not just change in post?

What do the various Scene File settings do for a shot that can't be done in post? Aside, of course, from DRS, I can't figure out which, if any, of the settings can't be modified by gamma, color, sharpness, levels etc. Thoughts?

    4-Pin XLR adapter for HMC150?

I see adapters for other Panny cameras for using a big battery to power the camera through a 4-pin XLR connector, but not for the HMC. Got any suggestions on where to find such an animal?

How to Edit then Present on a television

Good day I have a couple scenarios I need help with from (obviously) someone more in-the-know. Got Barry's book but it didn't touch on it. I have an HMC-150 and would enjoy watching my HD projects on my big screen. Without a BD burner (yet), there's only a couple of ways to do so. Render to...

    HMC150 Slow Motion?

I've seen some great slo mo footage from the HMC150 - what's the process? With the DVX, I"d shoot 60i 1/120th then slow to 40% on the timeline and render as 24p. I either haven't done enough experimenting yet or just don't know where to start ... Any ideas? Thanks!

    Curious about file numbering

Each time I return my card to my camera and clear off previous files, the camera restarts numbering at 00001. Any way around this? I've scoured the manual and can't find anything on it. If there's no fix for it, what's your workaround? Thanks

HMC150 and Sony Vegas temporary incompatibility

Just passing along some info I received recently. Shooting the 150 in 720-60p and placing on the Vegas timeline, strange things were happening; specifically, a frame from "a moment ago" would reappear making it difficult to determine where I was cutting. Wrote in to Sony support, they...

Connecting 1394 through to a video monitor

I found a video monitor and wonder if I can use it. The question comes in concerning the input jacks on the back. I would have expected to find the typical 2-audio, 1-video connector set, but instead it's analog RGB and sync, BNC connectors I believe. I have connected a normal TV to the...

24p in Vegas, video seems jerky.

I shot some video in 24p Advanced, placed it into the Vegas 6 timeline, and have tried all I can think of to render it out properly. Problem is that the only rate at which I can render and still have it play properly is regular 29.970 NTSC. When choosing 23.976 or 23.976 with 2-3 pulldown, it...

    Electrical "milliamp hours" question

Is it true that if a device is rated at 5 amps and you attach a 5 amp hours battery that the battery will last one hour? More specifically, being that the DVX100a is rated at about 8-ish amp hours, will the new 5600 battery last about 0.7 hours?
