Slow Motion using interlaced fields?

I'm pretty sure I read in Barry's book on the DVX that one could shoot in 60i, do some magic, and see fields as frames so that 40% speed at 24p showed field by field, filled in to frame by frame. But for the life of me, I can't find anything about it now.

In hoping it isn't specific to the DVX, I record in 60i on my HMC and can't get it to play field by field at reduced speed.

Does this ring any bells to anyone?

I tried that technique back in the DVX days but I found the footage to be too soft to use. With a 1080 frame you may get something useful, maybe with some sharpening, or finishing at 720. Let us know how it goes.

I did some Googling and found what I needed. Turns out, I wasn't seeing the effects within Vegas due to the resolution setting while previewing. All is well.

And yes, it does work just fine. 60i footage slowed to 50% for 30fps or 40% for 24fps gives frame by frame action.

As to the softness, I'll have to do more testing.

Thanks for the info!

But since the HMC record in 50/60p..... why not shoot this way instead of 60i?
