Curious about file numbering

Each time I return my card to my camera and clear off previous files, the camera restarts numbering at 00001. Any way around this? I've scoured the manual and can't find anything on it.

If there's no fix for it, what's your workaround?

Thanks

Its always going to start over, that's why I like Vegas import AVCHD which uniquely names the files with a hex code. I also noticed, it knows when you have all ready copied some files and does not duplicate (say if you have done a previous download).

We talked a bunch about it here, hope it helps:

I don't think you can. You want it to remember file names the way digital still cameras do right?

May I ask why its a problem? Its pretty much the same issue with P2 cards, they just add a couple of random characters at the end.

The workaround is to simply keep each card in its own folder isn't it? What editing program are you using?

I think I found what you're referencing, the AVCHD import window which is the Device Explorer. Mine errors out without any help. I've submitted a ticket with Sony. Thanks for the pointer!

Yes, exactly. Not restart numbering, but keep going. No additional characters are added, so if I shoot a handful of clips, transfer to PC, the Delete All from the card in the camera, the next clip I shoot will be number 0 again. I've been able to get around that by deleting the mts files from the card on the computer so the thumbnails/index are not removed, so my numbering is staying continuous now - but my card, in the camera, shows 80-some "?" clips plus any clips that are real.

Just kind of a pain. I guess the AVCHD import option will be a good choice once I figure out what's wrong on my end.

Thanks!
