Scene File(s) - why not just change in post?

What do the various Scene File settings do for a shot that can't be done in post? Aside, of course, from DRS, I can't figure out which, if any, of the settings can't be modified by gamma, color, sharpness, levels etc.

Thoughts?

I would simply rather not have to deal with it in post. If I know the look I want, and I can get it in camera, I don't see the point of not getting it that way. Saves time later.

additionally, i've found that i get better results shooting the look i want in-camera rather than trying to wrestle an image into another shape in post.

i know people say it's theoretically equivalent, but my eyeballs tell me different!
and, as mike stated, you save a lot of time.

and shooting this way encourages you to think like an editor and forces you to know what look you're working towards.....things that will greatly improve efficiency and quality overall.

On the flipside I usually record as flat as paossible with as fgreat a dynamic range as possible for tweaking in post and use my own custom cine-d scene file.

Plus I tweak for noise reduction.

The sharpness & coring settings can't be fixed or undone much in post, although you can very effectively sharpen in post.

Also the knee setting affecting the retention of highlights can't be duplicated in post. I.E. you won't get highlights back in post.

Most everything else can be addressed in post. But it's always easier the closer you are to the look you want natively.

Plus like Denwa said, tweaking for noise reduction is key.

+1. I was just to lazy to type all that.
