I'd like to hear from Joe the Plumber, too!

I'll be setting aside a night to watch them all. I usually hook my MacBook up to a monitor and/or television set and watch them from there with a 6.1 surround system (despite none of these files being properly mixed in surround). I agree that some of these flicks really don't keep you interested enough to watch the whole way through... so I can't really say how that will go this time around.

We'll know soon enough.

I feel it is only right to watch them all. I don't think I'll be able to comment on them all - I'd like to try. But, since I have an entry, I'd like to give the others the respect of watching their entries.

yes, unfortunately as much as I'd love to write reviews for all the flicks. watching them all is sometimes all I can muster. I love checkin em all out, but whew... 60+ is a lot.
BUT it's a community and we all have to pitch in to make it work properly.

my three basic rules are:
1) you make a flick and want others to watch, watch theirs.
2) you vote, you watch 'em all. ...'til your eyes bleed if need be.
3) we all like to get comments/reviews. you want one? write one.

I agree with Bryce...

And of course i am already stalking up on redbull and popcorn for that glorious viewing night!!!

I plan to watch every film except Penguin's...

Weeeeeeeeeel, then! I see how it's going to be. I am actually a bit disappointed that no one has voted for that option in the poll yet. I was going to but figured it would be too expected. Lucky for me (and probably everyone ) I didn't even TRY to make a film this time. I actually planned on doing a surprise last minute entry with lots of humor and inside jokes but I never got around to it (even had plot hammered and some crew lined up). Next time, I suppose...

---

I don't think I would be qualified to vote if I DIDN'T wantch every entry. I try to comment on every film but sometimes I can't because of time constraints, etc. Some also don't get my attention right away but I still try to watch it through to give an acurate rating.

I will watch them all over a few days. With my kids running around and My 9 month old son's fascination with slobbering and chewing on my Mac it is hard for me to sit at the computer for more than 30 minutes without one of them crying or asking for popcorn or juice. But I do agree that with all the work put in, everyone who can vote and comment should at least try to watch every film. 69 films X 6 minutes = 414 minutes = 6.9 hours (I think that's right)

I figured you are all about talking but not doing  :D

j/k nick :)

WRONG!!! Thats the whole point of the new voting system! You don't have to watch all the entries to vote. You judge every entry on it's own! You watch a film, and afterwards you give it a star rating, that's it. Cool huh? Then you can go on and watch others, or you can just stop if you want and it would not be unfair.

over a few days I plan on watching them all. all 69 films deserve some time and attention, if not they may grow up hurt and resentful. Causing pain and disrespect to thier parents and resorting to back alley viewing for a bottle of cheap booze. Please, this Festival season, show some love to every film you can.. it could save a life. *smiles sweetly*

I'm planning on watching all if them on the ps3 with a couple of people that worked on my film. Probably have a marathon viewing one one night... Err, just did some calculations. Might have to do it over 2 nights!

That's what I loved about the 5 minute timelimit. You could actually watch them all in one sitting. Not to mention that my entry for twilight fest is 5 minutes long :D

Yes, but what if everyone did that? Some movies might get a 7 star average say. Some 0. No rating at all.

Every movie should get a rating! What if everyone fails to watch some new movie by a new unknown Member and it's the most fantastic work to ever hit DVXuser! He won't win because nobody watched it.

Try to watch them all if you can.

Of course you should watch them all! I didn't say that. But it is better to vote for some entries than to vote for none of them. Every vote counts!

The message is: Vote for every entry you watched, even if you didn't watch all of them!

That won't happen. There will always be a few votes. And if it's the greatest movie it will show in the rating, even if it only got lets say 3 votes, because all of them would be 10 stars, so the average is 10 stars, thus he is going to be in the final round. I say it again, that's the reason behind the new voting system. Every movie gets rated on it's quality, not on it's competition.

The system would be seriously flawed if that happened.

Are you saying that a movie that rates a 7 average over 1000 votes should be in the finals against a movie that rates a 10 because the filmmaker and one or two other buddies gave it a ten?

Yes, I know it shouldn't be a popularity contest but there's something seriously wrong with that example. If that's the case.... no one vote for me and I'll give myself a 10.

See you in the finals!

All kidding aside, I never rate my own movie. The only time I gave it a rating was in the finals last fest because I was told I had to.

Mike

The voting system seems fair and balanced. The top 8 in Timefest were the best films to me. I may have changed one or two but we have it down.

I'm not saying that it's not fair. I just didn't agree with Simon's last example and I'm sure that they have a way around that sort of anomaly. :)

I just also believe that if you are going to vote for one movie you should do your best to vote for all of them. Of course, I realize that's not possible for everyone.

This is really one of the best run festivals around.

That example is the worst case scenario, which will never happen. There will always be quite some people (like you and me) voting for every movie. It will always show the quality.

But a movie that rates a 7 over 1000 is no better than a movie that rates a 8 over 100 votes. It's not about the votecount , it's about the quality and that shows in the average.

I disagree a little but we can drop it. Here's one last example though.

In Medicine trials larger group samples/studies are always far more accurate. Like it or not.

They are also based on personal opinion since every patient is different and tolerates side effects/pain differently. Some will even exaggerate reactions or make things up. Larger samples help get you a more likely/accurate number since there are always a few biased people. A few biased people can sway the numbers in a smaller pool sample. They have little to no effect in a larger one.

If 1000 of them say that X works for them 70% of the time and the smaller study group of 50 say it should be 80% of the time.

The smaller sample is thrown out in favour of the larger one.
