Nasa developing the moon as commuinal living space

Did anyone catch this on the news? Its on page 3 of the post today for those in NYC...

Anyhow I think its hillarious that we are going to do this...they say in the article that they are inviting other countries in, as well. Anyhow I found one part very interesting, it says they will build the "camps" near the poles b/c of "sunlight and other valuable resources such as hydrogen, ice and other materials."

Does anyone see any problems with this statement?

I wasnt aware of the moon having water myself.....ice = water correct? water = life, no?

Anyhow, put me down for 50K acres of moon land. Id pay ...oh 20 cents an acre for moon land if they started selling it. You know, just incase humans do start living there, my great x3 grand kids would be having a nice chunk of investment property to develop.

Man I feel so american saying that.....trying to buy something that isnt mine, to profit on in the future... Ha ha, capitalism at its best.

You sure?

April 14, 2005: The first object in the night sky most of us ever saw, the Moon remains a mystery. Haunted by poets, looked upon by youngsters in love, studied intensely by astronomers for four centuries, examined by geologists for the last 50 years, walked upon by twelve humans, this is Earth's satellite.
And as we look towards the Moon with thoughts of setting up a permanent home there, one new question is paramount: does the Moon have water? Although none has been definitely detected, recent evidence suggests that it's there.

so....
then isnt water a form of life? or at least a sign that life could persist there?
No I dont think people live on the moon, but I do *hope* there is ET's!

I did research on this topic and it says that water isnt possible on the moon, due to gravity and lack of oxygen...only ice buried deep beyond the surface. Although Ive searched nasa's site and they say they never have found anything, just suspect that it is there.

We can't even manage to take care of our own planet, yet we're going to start branching out?

Doesn't that technically make human beings a parasite?

(Yes, I do realize that the moon is a satellite and not a planet.)

the moon has plenty of deuterium and tritium - superheavy hydrogen molecules that would make nuclear fusion for energy a viable alternative. I support any effort made that will eventually lead to us no longer depending on fossil fuels to run our lives.

furthermore it would finally quash those rediculous conspiracy theories about noone ever going to the moon.

Extraterrestrials do not live on the moon. It is merely a rest area on the way to Earth.

there's got to be much nicer places to live than the moon, thats soo 1950's... moving to the moon is just like moving to the suburbs...

You mean running everything on prarie grass, corn, hemp and salt water? That's the dumbest idea I've ever heard. Totally impossible.

Man I am packing my bags! Do you think we'll find a monolith and a monkey? Wait. . . I'm confused, time for my medication.

Seriously I would love to live on the moon, fighting 4 armed green aliens and rescueing princesses from certain doom! Viva la moon!

Actually think of the moon as a giant gas station on the way to somewhere more interesting and I think it's doable.

As an act of goodwill and charity, I offer to go along for the ride and provide free services as a filmmaker in order to properly document life on the moon.

Too much "Matrix" ? :)

I'm just seeing real state agencies on the moon, trying to sell the best Earth view skyscrapper...

On a more serious note, it would be much more interesting to put someone in Mars- With an HVX and P2, of course!
