Hi everyone!
I´ve just purchased a 16 Gig P2 card and updated the firmware on the HVX-200.
Yesterday when i was recording a studio session I heard a strange beep.
As soon as i started to record a beep can be heard about the same interval as the P2 card is blinking.
The session was rigged with a wireless mike and a second mike (a zenheiser) via a cable directly into the camera. I thought it had something to do with the wireless mike but i get the same beep on both mikes. As soon as i pause the recording the beeping stops. The worst thing is that this beeping sound gets recorded!!! It´s not a very loud but it´s there...

Anyone experienced this?

It has to be something else, since the noise is in sync with the blinking P2 card access LEDs (at least that's how I read it).

Does the noise only get recorded on the channels for the external mikes?

I love a puzzle.

The manual (p116) lists a few items that will cause a continuous beep. The most troubling is the last one; however, if the camera continues to work (except for the beep), then it sounds like a filled up P2 card or a mismatch between the card format and the HVX software version.

Not sure why the beep was not muted on the recording...unless as THoff says it has to do with the external mikes.

Also check the phantom power switches. It may actually be an issue with the mics themselves making the noise. Check the mic batteries, too.

Hey, thank´s for the replies!

The beep is on both mics, wireless and the cord connected.
The firmware is the latest release and the P2 card is brand new.
When i pause the beep stops and on rec it beeps in sync with the blinking card.

I have recorded with the firestore disc and that works just fine.
Indeed this is a puzzle and i have a project that is not possible re shoot
wich is heart breaking...

Keep your eys open please! I really need to solve this.

when you play it back on camera, and on an editing system you hear this beep?

Is the beep on CH 3 & 4?

In the editing program mute 3 of the four CH's to narrow it down..

Did you hear it while you were recording?

Did you try unplugging everything and try to run it?

Hi Justin!

Yes, the beep is recorded, it´s stuck in the files. It´s in the camera and in FCP.

I haven´t checked ch 3 and 4 since i plugged the wireless to ch1 and the cord mic to ch2.

I could hear it when i was recording but i didn´t acctually think it would stick.

I have tried it in two different occasion and the problem remains.

This is a really scary thing to have...:(

I still love a puzzle. Don't give up yet.

Can we rule out the mics since there is no problem with Firestore?

Has it ever worked with that P2 card?

If not then it is probably at the root.

The beeping is a potential indicator that the P2 card is not right.

Try another P2 card and/or reformat it again. Try the other slot.

If you have a PC, then use the P2 Checker and reformat using the P2 reader. (the sw downloaded from panasonic)

A while back someone reported similar problems which occurred ONLY when the p2 card was in the upper slot. Try a different P2 slot?

I think it's unclear whether the you hear the beep "live" near the camera, if you hear the beep "live" through headphones while recording, or if you hear the beep only on playback...? That is, is the camera speaker beeping, and being picked up by the mics, or is the beeping being added somewhere in the camera? I'm assuming the beeping is NOT heard in the environment, only through headphones/playback....

That´s right, it´s only through the headphones, the camera itself doesn´t make any beep, so it´s not coming from the camera speaker.

I also read somewhere about upper and lower slot issues, that is my next thing to try on monday.
Thank´s for all your comments guys!

THe work around is BS... Panasonic should acknowledge and fix the problem if it is related to the software upgrade that allows 16 GB cards to work. Being able to record clean sound to the lower slot only really is not acceptable. The camera has 2 slots and they both should work as designed instead of cutting the usable recording capacity of the camera in half...

I can confirm this problem - 16gb card with new firmware causes beeping in slot 1. There is no beeping when the card is in slot 1. From what I have read it is a firmware problem.

i am recording audio for an interview and i have found this same problem. I have tried everything. the mics, different slots, going to just the internal mics. The beep is there. Every once in a while it isn't, ,meaning sometimes it just isn't there, but it is the majority of the time there. I went so far as to rent another camera and put a different 16 gig card in there and it too has the same issue. Is this a universal thing and no one is really checking?????? I have a good pair of sony headsets so the noise is very clearly. Although subtle it is there. I am wondering if this is a 16 gig p2 thing or what?????? I only have 16 gig p2 cards......

the beepins is being heard in my headphones. When i record the footage and I dump it into final cut pro I hear it there too. So it is being laid in on the footage. I have tried shifting the -50 to -60 still there. I tried taking ALC off...still there. I tried shifting from 720p/24pn to 1080i/24p

honestly nothing works. Something is wrong here. Not sure why the rest of you aren't hearing this. I normally don't monitor my sound (i normally work in music videos)....but I am doing an interview tomorrow and this is ridiculous.

please lets figure this out...this is crazy!!!!!!!!

Man, that could really screw a guys credibility. Are there any rumblings coming out of Panasonic regarding a fix?

I just shot an interview for a client and let them know there was some small beeping sound. They said I had to do it because it had to be on hvx 1080i/24. I rented a back up camera but heard the same noise so I just shot it on mine. I wish someone would have confirmed with me the card 2 slot idea. I got an email from Barry, but it was a little too late. I really wish Panasonic would have issued a statement....I'm hoping I didn't burn a bridge here.

I honestly did some extensive tests today and found that even card slot 2 has a beep but it is far fainter than card slot 1. I called and emailed Panasonic about this. They seem only aware of card slot 1.

I turned my channels to 2 and didn't have a mic plugged and hit record. if you do that on slot 1 you really hear a beep. If you do that on slot 2 you hear a fainter beep.

Such a BUMMMER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I discovered this on a junket last month. Fortunately any evidence is buried under the nat. sound track.

I hope Panasonic resolves this asap.

Can anyone report on the 32G cards having the same problem?
