Sound problem when recording with P2!!!

Don't be ticked... with my 4GB card, at least, the noise is of a very different character; more like the electronic noise you'd expect to hear generated by the camera... except there's a clear difference in character and level when recording to P2. The 4GB noise, if I hadn't been listening specifically to the record/stop transition, I would have dismissed as camera electronics (which, sure, it is...)... it's not something that jumps out like the beeping with the 16GB cards.

I got 4 and 8GB cards, cam without 16GB update, so ill definitly give it a try and follow your instructions...i also got a very good microphone and ill try to follow the noise with my Tascam HD-P2...hope to be able to test it today or tomorrow...

thanks for going into it with the 16GB/Firmware, as this seems to be a serious problem...id like others with the same setup to double check the experience of Ullanta...i guess its important to everyone, as we dont
wanna read threads like "i had this mega important unique interview and just came back with that beeeeep on my footage.."...so lets solve and test this a s fast as possible..!

Okey,

here a quick test with a hvx (pal, received end of march 2006) and a 8 GB card(hvx old firmware..).

Its possible that i didnt do the test the right way, but i tried to follow Ullandas instructions...all i can hear (not through the headphones!) is a permanent noise when the cam records to P2...but this is only noticable when you really go close to the p2 slots(in both slots its exactly the same noise..), its a simply noise as if my HDD in the laptop would move..but much less...you cant hear that at all, there wount be recorded and i guess THIS NOISE is totally normal, much less than the old days of tape-recording.

So good or bad, i cant tell that there is the noise here, at least nothing comparable to what you describe...i didnt find my 4GB card unfortunatly (should i feel bad..?), but i guess it would be exactly the same as with the 8GB test i did...!

So the best would be someone who is close to update the firmware with a new 16/32GB card who tests it before update (with 4 or 8GB) and after with 4/8/16/32 GB.....Keep goin Dvxuser folks...i hope we find a solution and different people who can test it...!

I just want to say thank you all so much for having this problem, reporting it, and talking about it! I did a shoot two days ago and ran into this problem and had absolutely no idea what was going on. Unfortunately it appears that the client will still end up coming back and saying that there is beeping on the track from what I have read here, but at least I know that I had done everything I could have...

I suck! I had so many fires to put out that I couldn't get to doing a good test.
Tomorrow we're skiing, (and shooting) :) , so I'll have to get to it later.
I did do some testing on some footage I previously shot with the HVX and couldn't hear any beeping though.

If you're looking for a guinnea pig HPX500 that beeps, I have one. The beeping is occurring on every slot, but only comes through in the right ear - through the headphones, at least. I tend to pull the phones off one ear because its so annoying. Nothing is laid to the P2 cards, its only coming through in the camera speaker and the headpohones.
I havent tried turning the Acess LED menu item off yet. I'll try that the next time and report back.
The camera belongs to someone I freelance for, but Im the only person using it - they're out for the Holidays so I'll give any suggestions a try after the 1st.

Sounds like they may have a fix for the HVX200, or at least they're asking people with the issue to contact Panasonic. Jan posted in one of the other threads with the contact info.

I'll be (hopefully in person) getting the camera to Panny next week...

Does anyone with experience of camera issues have an estimate of how long this process will take? Any chance I can wait around for a fix? I've got a heavy schedule starting up in late January and continuing through June; I wonder if I should wait for summer or if I'm likely to have my camera back within, say, 2 weeks?

A fix is encouraging ...

I wonder if they'll tell us what the problem is and\or was, and if its related to the hpx500 beeping issue.

Post fixes.

Post fixes.

Does anyone know of any filters or plug-ins in Final Cut Pro or Pro Tools to either eliminate or at least decrease the level of beeping? I'm not extremely proficient with Pro Tools or FCP's audio filters, so any help would be really appreciated.

Ullanta, Barry and all of the rest of you posters thanks for stepping forward to be counted. I got royally screwed the other day when i used my HVX and Redrock combo shooting a political spot. Beeping. I went back and checked footage from other shoots - beeping.
The problem occurs in both slots seemingly in equal measure. This problem is rendering the camera useless. Panasonic better start being more forth coming with answers. I didn't read Jan's comments on this board yet, but she left a message of indifference on the Creative Cow boards. The message post in August 2007.

The problem is not always easy to find. In interviews its easy to hear. I did some field work where the soundscape was so active that it was hard to detect. Just because thousands of people haven't complained yet, doesn't mean we all don't have the same problem - it might simply be an awareness issue.
I am using 16gb cards with the firmware that shipped with the camera. Ullanta, I'll go to your post and fill out the survey. Let's chat - I need to get this thing fixed.
Thanks
