Christmas presents...

heh heh, I guess it'll be locked when I'm holding it in my hand--and then maybe they'll ship hardware updates.

So who wants to take that last profile picture and Photoshop longer rods, a nice prime, follow focus and mattebox onto it? I'd do it myself if I had Photoshop on this machine.

Good to know. Are there cable channels to click the EVF line into or will it just hang? I'd hate to see somebody wrap it around the front of the camera under the lens and have it slip around during a take and bounce the iris ring.

[edit: another look at the renders with this in mind tells me that it shouldn't be an issue. A little velcro or gaff tape will take care of it if need be... even though I'm pretty sure the camera's allergic to both ]

yes.. the connections are mounted pretty high and the numerous mounting points aid in cable management.

When we ship the 1st one, my fear is that we will be known for the feature we missed and not the ones we have added in the last 11 months.

remember.. you can put that EVF anywhere damn well you please...

True, understand I'm imagining it in combination with an eyepiece leveler system... that's a bit of a dance of motion/rotation that certain operators will demand, however it's achieved...

On a different note, I personally feel that top handle is one piece of gear no one can do without, no matter how minimal you choose to go...

There will be blind critics, fanboys... and the rest of us in the middle. I bet you'll learn a lot once Spike starts making the rounds. Maybe everybody will miss the smoking feature.

And as for the eyepiece leveler, I'm seeing the EVF mounted on a long CF rod mounted to a rotational point on the camera. The eyepiece leveler from the head could mount to the EVF itself [akin to mounting to the end of the eyepiece extension] or - better yet - to some adjustable point along the CF rod. That way you not only have the eyepiece in the correct extended position as well as a familiar rotational interface with the body, you have an additional point of adjustment for setting eyepiece balance.

I did a terrible job of describing what I have in my head, but it's 1:43 AM on the east coast. If I was at home in CA I'd gladly put together a drawing tonight. Since I'm three hours in the future... that's all for me.

Trust me, Jim, I will be so overwhelmed to hold that badboy that it wouldn't matter what feature was in or not (just kidding). But seriously, I think most naysayers will still find something wrong either way. It doesn't matter what you do, its just the way it is.

I think you're close, if not already there, that no one in their right mind could criticize what we're getting--especially with this price/performance ratio. I'll be on the evangelist side.

How about putting a Marlboro right into the cooling intake hole and having the smoke / exhaust exit the front (for non-smokers) or the rear for us Marburo men to enjoy?

Or on the Super Charged Red, with bigger intakes, take your favorite Cuban cigar, insert into (larger intake hole) and blow smoke out the front and back for both cool look and enjoyment - less than $1000 Red Turbo cigar option.

Some nice thoughts on that Brook! Still, after seeing the shape of the EVF it seems to me it just SCREAMS for a nice fat extention tube that matches the EVF in diameter... I just like those nice beefy looking extentions. It could be carbon fiber and weigh a feather...

LOL Don't worry, Jim! I won't charge you... Well, it depends on your RED team  I hope you won't miss anything else  -- at least, until next Christmas and I'm sure our RED ONE units will already be in our hands: no more changes then!

Congrats on the design Jim and take a well deserved holiday break.

My one concern is when shoulder mounted, where do you position the LCD for viewing if you do not have a View Finder?

Amazing renders. The design is really nice!

Can I ask if the LCD screen is hinged? Similar to a normal flip out screen it would be good if you count mount it somewhere, swivel it but also fold it away for when it's in transit on the side of the camera. Or is it a loose part that you deatch and mount everytime you use the camera?

I havent seen any renders of the other side of the camera and wondered if there was a 'bay' you can park the LCD.

yes Jim - you can expect exactly this. the world is ungrateful, the best
is not good enough. But on the other side - you will also find some people sending you their thanks and sending you a lot of input for the next update !

Thanks for the renders Jim. I like design very much, modularity and changeability above all. Do not wary about missing features - there can not be camera with everything for all people usage. If you deliver promised it would be much more than expected. Happy holidays for you and the RED team.
