hey matt...

hey matt...

ok so I finally saw the clip.

some elements are slick for sure.

so congrats for putting it all together in post production.

There are many things that are (in my opinion) not up to pro standard with it (but that was always going to be the case with this kind of build up) - suffice to say that for an air band this is a great video.

Best of luck with film school...if you want more thoughts/comments I'm happy to share them...

Re: WOW Look at this kids work!

.. i thought this was really well done. i had a bit of an issue with all the blurring done in post (it started to mess with my head a bit). but thats only cause im someone that would notice that sort of thing. otherwise most of it looked really very good. its exciting to see what talented people can do. ! keep up the great work man! im sure well see you making high dollar mv's for very famous people some day if thats what you want to do.

Re: WOW Look at this kids work!

those full rez frames looks pretty good. And yes, I'm aware that letterboxing is not stretching or sizing the image at all. But if he compose all of his shots to have the main subjects to be within the 250 lines then you can imagine how little details can be retained within the shots.

Re: WOW Look at this kids work!

ok... what the.... i get the audio but the video is black. What codec is this in???

Re: WOW Look at this kids work!

holy crap. Kids got some skilliozzzz  :o

I'm interested to hear his post techniques. Especially those falloff blurs, etc. It all Looks very mini35-ish. Great color theory with the warm vs cool scenes.

Matt: If you're out there or on here, hop on and join the club and start spillin it :)

Re: WOW Look at this kids work!

kai, what are "skilliozzzz"..? is it like a spaghetti-o ? :)
true though - talent amuck in his head.

Re: WOW Look at this kids work!

:)

skilliozzzzzz (n.) {skill-eigh-ohhhs}
1. a high level of inherent talent in an individual. Mostly pertaining to the creative disciplines.

2. a soy-based vegan substitute for Spaghetti-0s

Re: WOW Look at this kids work!

Just talked to Matt for a bit, he's not only a great creative, also a cool guy. He just registered on here yesterday, so we should be seeing more of him around here soon... Glad to have you Matt! 8)

Re: WOW Look at this kids work!

ha! i knew it. being a vegetarian, i eat alot of soy. so i think that helped me know. :)

yeah when i was watching the behind the scenes things i noticed somthing interesting about him, and the crew. they were having fun! he was smiling, and so were other people. my kind of guy. its important to me that what i love to do never becomes a forced thing unless ive got some timline it absolutely has to. otherwise i say youve got to really enjoy what you do, and make it enjoyable for others working with/for you too.

Re: WOW Look at this kids work!

is there a link to the behind the scenes?.. maybe I just missed it on the site..

Re: WOW Look at this kids work!

there was one in this thread somewhere. i just looked for it and couldnt find it , but it may have only been up on the web when the site was under reconstruction.

thats 10 in leprachaun years BTW. oh got to run.. they are after me lucky charms again!

Re: WOW Look at this kids work!

Yeah his effects (blurs, etc.) are great, but I think what looks most impressive is the color correction--Matt, what are you using?

Looks like Magic Bullet to my eye, but I guess it could be 55mm or something else... either way, that's what impressed me the most. Keep it up!

Ryan

Re: WOW Look at this kids work!

Matt changed the webpage, before it used to take you to were you could see several things he has done. I think he is redoing his site. ???

Final Focus, I would guess this is the plugin that Matt used for the post focus comps. - this is by far the best Bokeh plugin Ive used.

Magic Bullet for color correction - I agree with rbilsbor - But, it could very well be 55mm - I have found that with a good deal of color tweeking and experimentation, that one can mimic the look of the either easily enough. Download the demo, apply some of the presets to your footage (only a few frames) - load up your fav color correction app and go to it, using the corrected video as a guide.

Do not be afraid to: experiment using multiple layers of color corrected video using alpha/transparency and blurring. eg. you could make the video black and white, play with the contrast until you get the blacks nice and dark, output the video. adjust the same clip to favor blue, then, combine to two peices of footage to tint the black and white footage to the color footage - you can do this in editing apps (semi ok) - or with photoshop and learn how to use automation to apply multiple steps to image sequences (lots of color options in photoshop, waay more control - better than in your typical editing app)

- or you could do it like the pro's in a composition package - lower end MainActor, Commotion and Dogwaffle, to the Common denomenator After Effects, the Streamlined compositors like Bauhaus Mirage, Discreet Combustion, to Higher End like DFX+, Shake - and the Super High End like Flint, Inferno (used to make CSI), QEffects.... A software compositor basically has the amount of control over video that photoshop has over a single image, combined with an editing app... creating an all powerful video hungry application that can chrun out amazing visuals to your hearts content...

welp, thats my 2 cents... keep up the good work Matt, and the rest of you :) -Evar
