What are your thoughts on this rig?

Oh wow! This is phenomenal! Great, great stuff! I wish there was a place out here where I could check this out. To my understanding, this will work with the DFocus, correct?

Any chance you guys give discounts to DVXUser members? Eh? EH?!

Thank you for the kind words! To answer your question ; with a quick release plate under the camera, yes. It will clear. Working on the spacer mold too, so people can do some fine height adjusting if they wish.

I just recently got my cages and I highly suggest them. Not only is Steve a pleasure to do business with, the cages for the price point exceed my expectations. I Am using the shoulder pad off my indifocus rig until my cpm shoulder pad comes in. Everything is really well balanced and super light. Plus endless mounting options.

I just ordered follow focus, small hd, and matte box. so when all of those goodies arrive in the next few weeks I will post photos of my setup to give others some ideas and for those who might be interested in it.

Keaten, keep us posted on this, as I would love to see this rig loaded up.
I won't be using matte boxes too often but will be using follow focus.
Just ordered a D|Focus V2 myself yesterday. Which I am going to try to use on my DVMulti Rig with rails.
Should have it in a few weeks or so, as they're back ordered.

But these cage configurations really intrigue me.

Final design on the Shoulder pad, proto type is nice and light and feels good. Cutting the core and cavity right now. If all goes well we should have product next week. Then the counter weight and last the quick release plate molds after that.

On a related note we just purchased some new nylon for the washers and snaps in the following colors;

black
blue
red
yellow
green

These will also be available next week as that machine and mold are open. Just waiting for the raw material to come in. On a related-related note. What is everyones ideas on having the carbon rod caps molded in the same accent colors of the washers and snaps? Too much? Right now they are black ABS with a blue hot foil stamp over the logo. But the idea came up that maybe it would be nice to have the caps match the washers and snaps whatever color that might be with a black hot foil over the CPM logo? Or is that too much color?

Steve

Steve.. That is really looking GREAT... As for the color question. I don't think it would be too much color. Need to see what it would look like first, but my guess is you could offer all the color variations and see how they do.

This is what we have right now. I think you are right, we should sample the cap mold in a few of the colors and assemble some rigs. Get an overall look at it. Gets some opinions.

I like the blue/black colors now... Same colors as the RedRock gear... Red/Black would look good too.. Either way, if it's not too much trouble to mock up some in different colors and offer them you never know... We film makers love customizing our gear so having the options of multiple color variations would give you an advantage over the competition IMHO.

pink?
...

Funny you should mention that, my wife Heidi does the Avon Breast Cancer walk and we where considering doing a week where 100% of sales are donated to the group. Of course the color would be pink, we would of course also send another color of the customers choice, as they may not want the pink. I think once we get the current lot of 4 tools finished up we might just do this.

Haha sweet, that sounds great! If you do do this, I wish you all the success!

PS The pink rig could have collectible value!

Steve, colors are very nice for some and maybe not so good for others. But having the option is probably the best way, each filmaker can customize the way they want. Maybe some football/soccer fanatics would love to pick a nice combination and avoid other ones ;) E.g. in Italy very distinctive pair of colors among others are: red/black, black/blue, yellow/red, white/black, white/blue ;)

how well would the shoulder mount hold if it was only mounted to ONE rail? basically i want to offset it by attaching it to the right rail only. does that make sense? its the really cheap-o way of offsetting it, but will it hold in place well?

This is what I have been waiting for. How much?

With this one, not to well. We decided to move forward with two distinct shoulder rig lines. The Shooter is the low cost version with this simple fixed shoulder pad. Later we will roll out a heavy duty version that is a little beefier as well as allow for more adjustments. As for offset, we are working on two sets of offset brackets. A straight off set and a "Z" offset that also lowers (or raises) while it offsets.

I sent u a couple mails Steve...but if anyone has a pic of the shoulder rig mounted and in use on somone's shoulder please post it. i'm kinda having a hard time picturing it the way it is mounted like in grench's photos. the rig is beautiful :).......but in my head i'm seeing it resting on his shoulders and the whole rig tilting forward/downward and having to use alot of ur arm strength to push it up to a level point. i'm used to seeing the shoulder mount in line with the rods underneath the camera. I;ve never used one of these shoulder rigs b4 and if ya'll say its fine i'll go with it....but i'd like to see it on somebody.

I'm wantin something like this:
microSM_v2_lg.jpg

But.... LIGHTER (that's where u come in) and with a z riser to put the camera closer to center...
Gotta be able to mount FF and MB.

See that's the setup i'm used to seeing and can see it working. Now with the shoulder mount where it is on steve's rig...I just don't see it being comfortable or even usable. But clearly I'm missing somehitng cuz grench says it works. So I'd wanna see it in use on somone.

Darren.
