What are your thoughts on this rig?

I like the yin yang look of the grips. Here's a picture of the shoulder rig. We are working on a shoulder mount pad and an offset adapter to allow the camera to sit above the rails as well. Expect to have that in about 2-3 weeks.

Looking good!
Will there be an offset function to adjust to the difference in shoulderline and eyeline?

Keep it coming CMP. Have you guys thought about doing a budget follow focus?

Yes and no. I have an idea that is currently sitting in pieces on my desk and in my head. I hope to have something to show everyone in the next couple weeks. We had planned on moving forward with the first person body cam mount and the geared head but I think based on the feedback that the next logicial step might be a follow focus that works with our gear (and is compatible with other gear) but has the lightweight/low cost vibe we are trying to put in all our stuff.

Yes, similar to an "L" offset bracket it can raise or lower depnding on how its flipped. Design is done, proto type is done just waiting for the mold base to come in so we can start cutting cores and cavities in it. I think they way we are heading we might have two dedicated shoulder systems. The basic shooter style we posted here and a little more advanced system. As it stands right now the little shooter shoulder mount was a pleasant surpirse that came about when we started playing with the 90 degree side grips we molded Thursday. My business partner Mark looked at it and said "You know you put these here, and bolt that there and use these rods" and before you know it I'm holding a shoulder mount that feels really good and super light weight. And the design should lend itself to our follow focus.

what is your guess (or can you say) on what this setup will cost with the thing to let it sit above the rails (which I will need cause I don't have a monitor and will need to look at the LCD screen, i'm guessing with it beneath, the LCD screen sits to low to be able to see yes?) i want this so bad for a commercial shoot I have next weekend!! :P

I would expect the offset compoenets to cost around the same as a thin mount as it would have the same weight, number of inserts and hardware. So that said I expect maybe 20-25 dollars to the cost of the rig? Its at the point that we have enough components designed and molded that I am looking at ways of connecting two exisitng components with a smaller/easier designed part as a way of keeping the cost down. If I can make a simple bracket to connect two thin rails in line then we could include that at no charge. If I need to design something from the ground up that utilizes mutiple parts then it will fall in line with the above 20-25 dollars.

Hey Steve,

Here is my new CPM rig. I was so busy testing this thing out in the field that I forgot to take some snap shots of it. I love this thing. Had added my own custom touch to it as you can see. Very comfortable and user friendly. My best rig to date. Checkout the links below. Hopefully I will have some time to stop by and show this thing off to you guys in person. :)

Everyone needs to soup up a rig. Just like cars, everyone is in need of a Husrt Shifter for at least one car. I love the shoulder rig, looks like we where thinking alike! Door is always open anytime you're down our way!

Thanks Steve,

I will definitely take you up on that. I have to tell you guys how much I'm enjoying this rig. Price point is perfect for the indie guys here on DVXuser. Now I can show up on the set with a rig that looks like a beast to match my killer footage.

Quick question. Will you guys be selling a plate with the DLSR version. The 1 you have on the prototype matches my existing tripod set up. Would love to get my hands on 1.

We will be selling a quick release plate that is compatible with the 357 plate. It will come with a single base, but two dovetail slides, a long one and a short one. We are also thinking about selling them in sets of two as it seems the greatest benifit of using the QR plates is the ability to swap your camera from rig to tripod to jib etc. Maybe even bulk buy in sets of 4? We will also have the spacer tool done around the same time, this fits the footprint of the belly pan and the quick release plate and will allow for a low cost way to adjust the height of the camera within the rig. As always trying to keep the costs low. I will post up a couple pictures of the QR proto type and the shoulder mount pad when I get a chance.

Thanks Steve. That is exactly what I wanted to hear. I'll keep an eye out for that.

Proto type of the QR plates we are getting ready to tool up. I believe we will sell these in sets of 1, 2 and 4. One set will include the base which is compatible with the 357 QR plate and will have two dove tail plates, the long one seen in the pictures and a shorter one as well. As you can see it will be a direct bolt on to our belly pan. I figure in sets of two a person can bolt one to the top and to the bottom of the belly pan, dovetail to the bottom that is. So now the camera is quick change as well as the entire rig off and on the tripod.

Shoulder pad

Shoulder pad

First version of a proto type shoulder pad. Looks... well... like a shoulder pad. It will do the job for the shooter style low cost shoulder rig. That said, I think I am going to re-design as a thinner part and put some holes through it, air it out, make it a little lighter weight. This version will not be adjustable side to side. The larger shoulder pad will. I believe our intension is to provide two styles of should rig, the Shooter style low cost version like the picture posted before and the one for sale on the web site. And later down the road a larger version with the articulated shoulder mount and the fully adjustable front grips.

Steve I'm really starting to like what I'm seeing in the development of this.
I am currently using a DVMultiRig form DVTEC, whihc is multi-configurable and compact.
I use this for both video and DSLR cameras.

However I am really liking the cage aspect and rigidity of your rig. And the overall weight will be extremely lightweight due to carbon fiber composting. Your rig would be a home run if you could possibly find a way that would enable people to use DVTecs 2 section support pod. Like what's shown here and here.

I saw someone else online modify their RedRock rig to take it so it can be done. I just don't know how yet. Since I am local (in Maryland) if you like I can bring it by and show you personally what I am talking about It is rather cool and simple. If I could get the pod QR part, I could probably open up the belly pan and mount it to that.

Door is always open for anyone to come look at the operation and kit bash a rig together. I will take a look at the link you mentioned.
