What are your thoughts on this rig?

It is decently priced. The diagram pics of the struts show their dimensions as 7.5" h x 6.5". It would be nice to see an actual camera in the rig for reference.

I have emailed them asking how things are attached to the Uni-Struts, because it is difficult to tell from the pics. All off the struts in the pics appear to have no holes, except for this one:

I'll post their response.

Thanks boulder. I have seen Jehu's cage. Look's good.

However, I was looking for impressions of this specific setup.

Huh, weird timing. Guess spectrumfilms and I were trolling ebay at the same time.

I emailed Steven about mounting stuff to the struts and got this reply:

"The sides now have two holes in the middle going up and down, these have threaded inserts in them that hold the thin rail mounts. These in turn allow you to mount a set of rails on the sides. Also above and below the threaded inserts is a set of size holes, two wide on .750 spacing by three high on 1.00 spacing. Much like the RED side cage sides. Drawing attached as its difficult to tell by description."

lol at comparing hte jag 35 to a real cage setup

im going to be getting cory eassoms cage here soon. so worth it

I have one of these to demo and here's a picture with a Canon 7D and other stuff put together.
So far I can say this is a very solid rig and the carbon cages/struts makes a rig like this sturdy and it feels great to hold and carry.

This one I got has no holes on the side because it's a demo unit.

editman,

Thanks for the pic; it puts things into perspective.

Doesn't look like you're using their Belly Pan... Any reason?

What do you have on the back? Zacuto rod running horizontally?

Thanks

Never heard of these guys but the price is right for a lot of folks in T2i territory.

I’d like to take this opportunity to say hello, we just became a proud sponsor of DVX. We believe we have a product that most DSLR and conventional videographers will find useful for a fair price. We are the designers and manufacturers of the gear, all under one roof. We sent 10 demo kits out for review and feedback. As mentioned in the posts Editman has one as does Matt from fresh DV. These two individuals alone have given us a ton of feedback and represent the bulk of the modification we have implemented. Based on this early feedback we have already implemented a slew of tooling modifications, these include the holes up the sides of the uni-strut, adding threaded inserts to the belly pan and a host of other mods. The cage systems are simply the start of a larger group of products we have in the works. We are really excited about our shoulder mount kit. We intend to sell the shoulder kit as being capable of mounting the camera above the rails or below. When under it should allow for a lower center of gravity and what I believe will be a steadier shot. The kit will also come with a set of off-set brackets that will allow for conventional offset mounting of the DSLR unit. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Steve

Rods and baseplate is from Gini. As Steve wrote they are implementing features to this rig based on feedback and so far I leave the Belly pad out of this configuration. Picture is just to give you one example of how it looks together with camera, ff and mattebox.

Saw this on philip bloom's blog, I was wondering if anyone has any experience with it, if they know the price or whatever? He quotes a website, http://cameracaddie.com/ but as you can see, it's under construction :(

The CPM stuff looks really impressive and affordable. I would like to give it a try. but being in the EU ..... might be tricky with S&H and custom :(
The DSLR cage kit looks really good. Checking what else I would need with it :)

I would suggest something that uses 2 hands to help stabilize. Something like the Halo Rig can also accommodate all my favorite dSLR accessories. Here is my setup:

Special hack....

Nah just kidding - it doesn't while recording but great to setup shots and check focus.

I use it mostly with the HMC150. Other DSLRs have video out, which is great with this setup.

Going back to my previous post, the website is actually http://www.camcaddie.com/ - I just ordered one for filming low angle skateboarding stuff with a fish eye, I'll let people know how it turns out once it arrives and gets put through its paces :D

The other rigs people have mentioned look nice, but I was hoping to get thoughts on the cpmfilmtools rig(s). I was not looking for suggestions for alternatives. Not trying to be a jerk....

Editman, how would you compare the weight and strength to the gini rig?
