What are your thoughts on this rig?

I am wondering what is it required from your side to setup a distribution point in EU ?
THX

I would expect I need to figure out the cheapest method to get product over there and then a company willing to sell. We sent one demo kit to Norway. Actually two, both via JetCarrier. The first kit accidentally went via boat. The second kit went via air. From what I can see on the web site this is exactly what they do. "From our presence in Tistedal, Norway and New Jersey USA we supply logistics, export/import and customs clearance for more than 49000 Scandinavian clients."

So I expect I need to pick a good central EU location, a service similar to JetCarrier that goes there and someone willing to sell it.

usps flat rate boxes are your best bet. 12x12xsomething or other, you shoudl be able to fit a full DSLR kit in there...or two or three

I want to see in depth reviews of this cage/rig because at this price and supposed quality nothing else even comes close! This could be the rig breakthrough. I wait with c/c in hand...

We sent 10 demo kits out from our initial mold trials. These went to Matt at Fresh DV, theEditman.com got one as did several others in positions to provide feedback and perform 'beta reviews'. The bulk of the feedback provided by Peter (Editman) and Matt represent the bulk of the modification we have implemented on the gear. A second set of demo kits are going out that now incorporate that feedback and from these I would expect you might see a review or two. However that said with NAB fast approaching it might be a while before you see anything in way of an in depth review. We are also working on an instructional DVD that will be included in the kits. I believe it might be a good idea to post parts if not all of the DVD online to give people a better idea of the kit, how it works and how we put the gear together.

CPM, here's an idea. Picatinny rails AR-15 pistol grip and AR-15 buttstock attachment. This would open up 1000s of accessories for shoulder mount configurations. Just make some pieces that attach to either the rods (single/dual) or 1/4" holes with picatinny rails on them or a faux AR-15 rear end that will accept all AR-15 buttstocks.

shaocaholica,

I had to look up what in the world you were talking about. Not a bad idea to incorporate some of that stuff.

Although use too much of it and you are liable to get shot ;)

We actually have molded that type of part. When we first started we had about 25%-75% split between military/DOD molding and commercial. In the last few years that has switched to about 75% of what we mold is military the balance commercial. We are situated right in the middle of Pax River Naval Air Station and Indian Head Naval Surface Warfare Center. We also do molding for Beretta USA and some Mk90 Rocket Motor parts as well for ATK. All that work is through Chesapeake Plastics. For CPM Fastools we have noticed an increase in requests for aging aircraft or aging field parts. OEM's no longer supporting programs coupled with lost tooling means having a hard time finding replacement parts. So in house we have a 3D scanner to digitize the parts, get 3D cad files of the parts. Then Generate FDM proto types or if needed metal proto types to test fit form and function also in house and finally build tooling based on the same electronic 3D file. Most recent is a battery box for a mobile radio unit no longer supported by Hughes. Before that was a PC board clip no longer supported by Tyco used in training aircraft.

Hi, CPM Film Tools.

Are the holes in the middle portion of the "thin plate" threaded (1/4-20) so that you can screw your "handle only" part directly into the plate?

Are these items in stock?

Thanks.

John

Yes and yes, that is basically how the easy rig cage works with the grips out toward the sides, attached to a second set of rails on each side, these would allow the grips to slide forward or back which is a nice feature. If thats what you want we have all that in stock ready to ship. However if you want grips that attach to the struts themselves we just finished the tooling and hope to have some machine time open next week to run some parts. These also use the grips, but at a up or down angle (Pic attached). I believe this will allow better control of the rig, especially for tilt compared to the straight out grips when used without an Easy Rig or other type of suspension system.

I'm digging those grips and how you can move them around. When will they become available and any idea of the price? Hey, when you guys finish that dvd, upload those videos on youtube. You'll have folks foaming at the mouth.

The tool for the grips was completed today. Just waiting for some machine time to open up so we can get some samples run. I expect this to happen next week. For price I expect them to come in around the same as the handles as they are about the same weight, use an insert like the handle and therefore need an operator to run the machine and would take around the same cycle time.

Looks like Steve put newer and better pictures on the site:

Looking good. Has the holes, but doesn't look like the threaded ones yet

Just updated the site again with some new pics of the side grips and a few other items. Side grips came out better then I expected and with the bolt pattern able to match up pretty much anywhere, it lended itself to a nice little lightweight shoulder shooter. So we are now working on a mold for a simple shoulder pad and some offset adapters. With the grip mold out of the injection molding machine the modified strut molds are going in next so we will have new side struts next week. Spacer mold will also be done next week.

Just in case anyone wanted to see the new side grips.

^^^^I am sold. You're getting my business.

I like the yin yang look of the grips. Here's a picture of the shoulder rig. We are working on a shoulder mount pad and an offset adapter to allow the camera to sit above the rails as well. Expect to have that in about 2-3 weeks.
