What are your thoughts on this rig?

CPM, what other produces can we expect from you guys in the future? I'm personally still searching for an affordable geared/belted track dolly.

From their site: "Designed to fit todays DSLR cameras such as Canon 7D, Panasonic GH1, Nikon D90 and Canon 5D. A strong carbon fiber rail system with carbon compounded polycarbonate components round out a kit that allows multiple attachment points for LCD displays, XLR adapters and follow focus systems."

So I guess the struts is "carbon compounded polycarbonate"

Correct. We start with a high strength polycarbonate;

Modulus of Elasticity – 316,763 psi
Yield strength – 4,800 psi
Strain at yield – 1.79 %
Tensile strength – 8,800 psi
Strain at Break – 6.56 %
Poisson’s ratio - .356

We then add carbon fiber to add some rigidity to the pieces. Not so much that the units will crack but enough to give it more strength then a straight up PC. We also add a UV stabilizer to it so it will not discolor or fade when exposed to UV light. Then the black color is added. This is all done at the material compounder so that when we receive the raw resin it is ready to mold with. It took considerable testing to get what we feel is the right balance of flex and strength.

Steve just sent me a drawing of the Uni-Strut with holes and side grips.

Side_Grips.jpg

Yeah, I got that one aswell. It will be interesting to try these modified struts after our feedback. I like them already but I can imagine all possibilities with this one.

Regarding the modified pieces:

"The current units being sold incorporate the 12 sets of side holes. So
anything ordered now will include those. The two threaded inserts for the
Easy Rig configuration required a mold modification which is complete, we
are just waiting for some machine time to open up so we can start molding
them. That said the 12 sets of holes are spaced so that a set of side rails
can be mounted very easily. We also have a set of side grips we are
currently building tooling for. Picture attached. Feel free to post it on
the DVX forum as our answer to a Halo type of configuration. The A side of
tool is being cut right now, B side will be tonight and we hope to doing
some mold trials when machine time opens up. Maybe 2 weeks for
availability. "

so in 2 weeks they will be ready to ship with the holes in the side.
alright cool

also what is the thread pitch on the side holes? standard 1/4 20?

This is a cut and paste from the cover letter that went out with the demo kits. The side grips are not included in this list, but all other items should be pretty close.

"Perry,

I'm guessing you're talking about the cable organizers. They are funky looking. Steve says they'll be available in red too, besides blue and black.

Steve: Let me know if you object to me using your picture."

Nope don't mind at all, I appreciate the help! I try to keep up on the posts and questions. If anyone and I mean anyone has any questions just give us a call or shoot an email over. We are pretty transparent as a company, we use to have wireless cameras installed in all our molding machines so people could actual see streaming video of the machines running.

They do, go on their webpage, pick one cage in the basket and check the S&H costs. It's about $65 to Finland. Plus the 22% import VAT tax is a killing issue :(

$65? I thought it couldn't be more than $30 with USPS priority airmail to Europe (please no UPS!)...Even USPS flat rate boxes options are cheaper for European destination. Extra price may mean extra inssurance but as long as the item leaves US soil, the inssurance doesn't cover anything any more. Delevry times are the same anyway - so a waste of money.

I asked about Ebay because it is the opportunity to get one for about $100 cheaper than on the website :)

This + expensive shipping charges: too bad they don't care more about the European market. They could have made a lot of extra customers (including me :) )

Good job on the product, though !

maybe i'm completely stupid in asking this but i'm just trying to figure it out. lets say I buy the DSLR shooter cage right now. All I will have is what comes with the shooter cage and my Canon T2i. What else do I need? (i mean literally everything to have the camera attached to this cage) i'm not seeing a plate that comes with this? what inexpensive plate should I get? anything else I need?

also, if I get this, will I be able to add on the DFocus Follow Focus by just buying that as well?

And finally, CPM - when you release your shoulder mount, will it be able to be added on to the DSLR Shooter Cage or will I have to buy a Shoulder Mount Shooter Cage all together?

thanks!

As you can see from my pic. They use USPS Express Mail International. $64.40

As I saw the ebay price is the same: $249 for the DSLR shooter kit. Actually on ebay i haevn't seen the "Buy it now" option yet. So theoretically you have to bid ;)

Yeah, it would be nice to have such product line available in EU. Maybe I can offer them to distribute it in EU ? ;)
Looks very good product, definitely on my wish list and my bday is coming ;)
cheers

As I see that part is called "Belly Pan" and it is included in the kit.

I would say yes. I am investigating all these options myself as well :)

We do care about sending overseas. 3 out of the 10 kits are in Europe, all sent via UPS at our cost. So you can imagine our surprise when we saw how much it costs. That is the only reason we added USPS to our web site. Peter (Editman) sent me 4 web sites that might be interested in carrying the gear we sent price sheets and information and offered to send test kits for review to each of them;

www.lrtv.se

www.scandinavianphoto.se

www.cyberphoto.se

www.yfo.se

All said they liked the product and especially the price but where unable to support any new equipment at this time. If you know of any other company that might be interested let us know. You would think a single company would step up as being an exclusive seller of the gear might be a nice bonus, but not as yet.

Ebay is a strange beast. It was our desire to only list the items as "buy it now" but I guess due to our limited feedback auction style bids are the only option available to us? Thats why I would always put up a second auction up when the first had a bid as it was never our desire to get more then the opening bid for the item. I had hoped that people would see the link to the web site in the auction and go there to buy the kit at the same price.

Correct, the belly pan is our main mount. We are working on both spacers and a quick release plate that are direct bolt ons to the belly pan both tools are being built as I type. In regards to the shoulder mount or any piece of new gear they will always be compatible and there will never be a need to purchase a whole rig. Even going from DSLR to conventional we went the extra step and made 3 different size uni struts and side struts. That way if you upgrade and the form is larger or smaller the only items you need to purchase would be a smaller or larger set of struts. All the other gear stays.

Correct ... you need to build some feedback first before being able to do BUYITNOW :) It is a safety issue for the buyers. Hope you will get updated quickly :)
Cheers

I am wondering what is it required from your side to setup a distribution point in EU ?
