What are you listening to now ?

KRLA has hosts like Dennis Prager and Michael Medved. They're interesting to listen to for various reasons but they are about as far right as one can go and still be somewhere in the realm of sanity.

In truth I don't think KRLA has huge listenership. I may be wrong. I know that Prager started at KABC, which is a much more 'first-tier' station, and eventually landed at KRLA.

Speaking of female singers I thought I'd check out Avril again to see what's new from her.

This one, like her other songs, has at least some meaningfull lyrics and better singing overall, than Lady Gaga, imo. At least it seems some thought went into it. Also, I think, 43 million views on this one. Just way better that Gaga all around I think. Gaga seems to be a corporate music industrial entity of sorts for lack of a better expression.

But, a little heavy on the makeup in this one. :) Nice production and singing as always.

I'll give you one thin, Gord... Avril is freakin cute. :)

I was doing a gig in Kingston once. Her and her Uncle I believe it was, was stitting in the front row. Maybe it was her Dad. She was just a kid then, around 14ish and still singing country. She got up and sang a song with us. Way before she ever made it big.

But I always remember how nice they were. Just the most polite people you could ever wish to meet.

Listening now Tom. Just wanted to mention I misspelled 'meet' as 'meat' above. At my age you would think I should know better. Apparently not.

//edit: never mind. Dyslexia. I guess I got it right the first time. This is weird. Oh well. haha.

K, back to the above.

Good song man. I'll have to replay that a few times. Cool. Actually I'll download that too and put that in my 'bag-o-tunes'.

I remember when Michael Medved had brief segments discussing turkeys on Roger and Ebert. In a former life, I interviewed him for a newspaper. One of the most intelligent guys I've ever met. He shared a great story about searching for kosher bread in Arkansas. The loaf with a heksher turned out to be the Piggly Wiggly store brand bread.

...
I just read that Abbey Lincoln has passed away. Very sad news.

@Uwe. Yeah, that Zebra song was really cool. I liked that quite a bit.

Probably the closest live version that compares to the studio version, vocal wise, that I've heard for Smoke on the Water.
Deep Purple:Machine Head album.
Good band, for those who remember and for those who don't.

Deep Purple:Smoke on the Water:Live. 1973 baby.

It's a great song. Hard to believe he was the guitarist for Ozzy for so many years...

Here's what I've got on youtube right now. One of my favorite songs of all time...

Oh Mannn. I used to love that song and still do. Been ages since I've heard it.
What a sexy voice she has. She used to look a bit different back when I heard this I think.

I remember talking to a local bar owner that was booking bands like Lee Arron, Trooper and those kinds of bands that had faded out of the spotlight but were still gigging, and mentioned how I loved chick bands.

He brought in Lee Arron and I think a couple others and said they just didn't sell like the male bands. It's a shame man. A lot of great chick bands out there.

Pat Benetar, oh, I forget her name, figures, the girl with black hair and tattoos all over her arms, from Toronto, I think. Hair from the 60's or 30's or something. Damn I forget her name. What the hell is her name? It's easy.
Saw a documentary on her once. Dammit.

Anyways, thanks man. Yeah, good band.
Trying to catch up on the other posts here also.
