Auto Gain Control I believe - or maybe Audio Gain? Regardless its terrible and makes recording on camera almost unusable, unless using it as a reference track.

The question is do the dual processors on the 7D help minimise the rolling shutter?

it doesn't appear to have manual color temp control or 5x LCD magnification.

Look at the ISO bracketing, it jumps from
200 to 400 to 800 to 1600 that really sucks
and the best reason I've seen so far not to trade
(but I'm still tempted)

anyone know if this has the AGC curse?

hmmm it skips all of the "clean" ISOs. From what I've read so far I'd only ever use it as a crash cam.

Are we sure that you can only bracket the ISO 2/4/8 etc, and that's just not for the Auto ISO setting?

some dvx and cinema5D users have run tests and posted examples. ISO 160, 320, 640, 1250 are much cleaner than 200, 400, 800 etc

Well yeah. You don't need tests to prove that. I can see the need for more ISO choices but in light of that theres nothing wrong with 200/400/800/etc when 200 is the base ISO anyway. Theres always an ISO thats less noisy than another. I don't see why you have to use "inbetween" EV values.

working without 1/3rd ISO bracketing would really really suck
can't even imagine it ... what would you do? screw with the shutter?
find a 0.1 ND?

I'm guessing nobody here has shot on one of the rebels? I wouldn't trade my 7D for a rebel even if I were exclusively doing video. The form factor and button layout is infinitely superior on the 7D.

But the T2i does represent a good value and I may very well add one to my bag of tricks.

I look for best bang for my buck and as Barry says quite frequently - if you don't need it or miss it, chances are its fine for your purposes.

You ask if buttons and form are worth $800? Have you tried to make a 7D shootable? There's shoulder mounts, rods, FFs, monitors, etc and that's with a sturdy body and decent button layout. Little things like buttons and form are HUGE when using this primarily as a video device.

I couldn't imagine using it with the Rebel lines' layout or body...but that's just for me and my purposes.

Are Buttons and form worth $800. I don't do photos or shoot in the rain so I just cant justify it. I just can't....
Which is why it's good that there are multiple products on the market, right? Because each of us has our own priorities, and this endless "x is better than y" argument can only be properly viewed within the context of each user's own priorities.

For some people that $800 will be money well spent. For others, it's crazy to even consider it.

I can't answer that for you. For me, absolutely. There are so many compromises I make to shoot on 7D vs. a standard video cam that I would not be willing to take another step back in terms of ease of use. Well, not for my primary cam. The T2i would be great for getting more coverage though.
