Would V-Log be even usable when shooting in 8-bit 4:2:0? Wouldn't the severe grading process to restore contrast to the image destroy the super-compressed footage when shooting that flat?

I stepped back from using a log signal on compressed files. It's nothing but extra work and trouble. We work with the FS700, GH4 and 5D3. It's very hard to color correct them so that they match (s2log, CineD and Cinestyle). But when shooting at natural on all of them, they match perfectly with some minor adjustments.

i think it'd be fine. C300 footage is 8bit and grading c-log footage is not super restrictive. Is it as good as raw? No, but it is good. I have only run into real trouble when trying to push shadows unnaturally.

Wait. This is the last gh4 firmware update ever?

I think that was speculation, assuming Panny is working up a GH5. But, they DID show a GH4 with v-log style on it, and some heard it was coming.... so... I doubt it is the last update. GH4 is not even a year old yet.

There's so much potential in the hardware of this camera that i believe that Panasonic will do some surprising updates in the future, it has a Quad-Core processor inside, the battery lasts for hours... now is sometimes refered as AG-GH4 and not DMC-GH4 and was adopted by the Pro-AV division http://pro-av.panasonic.net/en/gh4u/ (or it was always like that and i just saw it now?)

I am already getting nostalgic for my AG-dvx100b. Glad to here that Panasonic is still working on the gh4. I don't want to have to throw down on the gh5 next week. Please give us v-log for the gh4. Soon and please again.
