GH4 V-log

Here is what Panasonic says about the V-LOG profile for the VariCam 35

To maximize the dynamic range of the recorded images, Panasonic has developed a new log curve (V-Log) which elegantly maps the 14+ stops of image data to the recorded file. The VariCam 35 permits the assignment of various LUTs to individual recording channels and camera outputs. For example, shoot UHD and record non-destructively with the V-Log LUT, but assign a ”baked-in” 709 LUT on the HD / proxy recording for a real-time normal contrast look for editing and pre-grading. The camera’s monitor, EVF and EVF outputs have similar selectable LUT capabilities. The VariCam 35's In Camera Grading feature is fully flexible, with the camera able to record an ungraded 4K master (with associated metadata grading information) and graded (baked in) HD image simultaneously.

IF Log comes to the GH4 here's to hoping the EVF & LCD can be toggled between displaying it, & Rec 709, similar to what Erilk described.

Makes sense for Panasonic to time such a release to coincide with the HDMI's Timecode & Record Trigger updates. Wished they'd offer a compact 4K recorder too.

GOOD NIGHT! Watch the video and SEE how much flatter V LOG looks. I wonder if it will be just as noisey as lowered contrast or curves?

Look how flat it is vs Cinelike D. Also interesting that the picture profile parameters are locked out in V-Log and you can't alter the contrast, a good sign it's actually a proper log curve.

Good catch. 10 bit out of HDMI at 4K in V Log? I just wet my pants!

This camera was on the YAGH sending the image to the Shogun via HDMI out. I'm pretty sure it was in 4K.

Wait what???? Panny! You love us!?

Everyone remember that there pictures floating around the net recently of 4K enabled on an experimental firmware for the Olympux EM-1. That turned out not to happen, and they might have just been testing the feature for a future camera. So, in other words, don't get your hopes up too much yet that this is actually going to be released. I could just be in testing to see if it's really feasible/practical/useful and what not.

Well they shouldn't give us all the presents all once. I'll be happy to receive the HDMI fixes from Santa and the V-log from the Easter bunny :-)
