Tokina 11 16

I was at both B&H and Adorama on Apr 22. Neither had an ETA. Meanwhile, the eBay seller responded that they would be shipping the lens but so far no tracking number.

So my Tokina 11 16 came in yesterday. Placed the order on Friday. Didn't do much with it except take a few pictures last night at home...and I must say... this lens is SICK!! I can see so much potential with this lens. It's sharp, does great under low light, and feels sturdy. A bit heavy when it's on the 7D though.

Anyways, I bought 2. One was suppose to be for a friend who now tells me they can't pay for it. I was about to return it to the vendor and exchange it for a 85mm and put out an extra $200 to get a Tamrom zoom lens. But thought I'd see if any of you guys are interested in grabbing it up first since it's so hard to find this thing.

Brand new, in the box, with the warranty card...ordered it Friday..only reason I opened it was to inspect the lens.

I paid $650 for it. $599 + .825% tax.
Paid $25 for shipping.

I'm not going to try to screw people around with the price like ebay and craiglist just because it's a hot commodity.
I just want to recover my cost or else I'll just ship it back to the vendor.
I paid $675...if someone is interested it's $700. The additional $25 is of course for shipping.
Let me know. I will ship back to vendor on Friday if no takers.

Wide open is nearly as sharp but since I was so close to the subject, the background would have fallen out of focus slightly. Not a good bokeh but would be percieved instead as softness. So it's better to stop down in this case.

Here's a still I did a few nights ago. Tokina 11-16 @11mm, f2.8, 30 sec @ iso200. Yeah, it's sharp! Using a V3 adapter from 16-9.net in the UK - pricey but allows setting f.stop when using Nikon mount lens on 7D.

Best of both worlds - really didn't want to sell lens and take a loss just to get a Canon mount. Next step is to go back and shoot 4-hr timelapse but will have to wait for May full moon.

Here is yet an other picture of the Disney Hall... :) I served as a juror this week, and since we
parked in the Disney Hall parking structure I figured I should snap one even if under mid-day sun:

@ 11mm - on 7D - I should clean up the water streaks on the left

Nice pic there Roberto

@Cheezweezl - whats with the red stuff you didn't brush out around his ear and hairline?

@everybody - I have a nikon mount tokina 11-16 in the Market/Used selling forum

Just got email confirmation and tracking # of my 11-16 ordered from Taiwanese seller (Shueido) on eBay. Now hopefully it isn't a piece of plastic marked "Tokkkinah" (my late and very gullible father once bought a watch in Atlantic City from someone "who lost all my money"... watch was labeled SIEKKO).

Too funny. I just bought a remote/timer/intervalometer for my T2i off of eBay from China and while the unit seems to be ok, the English instructions are translated so badly that it is absolutely incomprehensible! I have had to spend hours trying to figure out the controls. Luckily for a lens the instructions are pretty easy. Put on camera, point that way!

V3 adapter

V3 adapter

how are you liking that V3 adapter? Are there any downsides to it?
Other than the cost of $250 I haven't found any downsides. Simply shoot the 7D in Av or manual mode and the results are great.

Again, the only reason I chose to buy it - I probably would have lost $150-200 in selling the Nikon mount Tokina and this way I can still use it on both cameras. Only problem is now I am finding fewer reasons to shoot the Nikon since I have the Canon. Also bought a couple of cheap eBay adapters for use on other Nikon lenses with the 7D. Biggest surprise was with the $10 adapter on my Nikon 80-200 f2.8 with f/stop ring, the 7D images are spectacular.
