TimeFest Voting - Round 1 - Closing Date

Larry Rutledge

Fest Master
Round 1 of voting for TimeFest will close at 11:00 PM (Pacific Time) on Wednesday, July 2.

Details about the second round of voting will be provided later.

It seems like it's a kind of break to semi-finals, which I think is a great idea for fests.

I think it would be cool to be able to vote from a cell via txt msg OMG!

Seriously, though. Good luck to all!

Just wondering why the whole plan wasn't put out at the start, instead of just a little at a time?

So, do we have to vote again after the "1st round" and why the change all of a sudden?

You know less votes will come in this way... people will lose interest...

I think two-tiers is a mistake personally...

Hmm, it will be interesting to see how this all works.

Strangely enough, this is the first fest I've actively participated in. I normally just view the top hit pages watch a film or two, and be on with my life. This time I put countless hours into watching, reviewing, and voting for almost every film.

It wears you out after a while. I'd be interested to see how the two-tier deal will work myself. Maybe if you voted high for a film and it didn't make it, you would have to pick a different film?

I have no clue.

I don't mind the two-tier idea so much, but if this is going into July now, then how long after that?

I'd like to see the top five to ten films put up sunday. Pick 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Then you have 3 days to vote. Vote here.Send a text. Send a email. Call Barry Green's house,,,,,

It's quite possible that the second round may not have anything to do with us voting. Voting twice does seem silly.

Maybe the top 5 or 10 will be put in front of a judging panel of some sort?
Giving them the final vote on choices that we have placed before them.

That would be cool.

Please trust us to have thought about this more than just randomly deciding things. We have put a tremendous amount of discussion, thought, time, effort and energy into this system.

We did not just throw the films out there and then on a whim decide, "oh let's close it on such and such date, guess we need to figure out what to do next".

The system implemented has been thoroughly thought through and we believe we are moving in the right direction. There are reasons why things are happening at certain times, and why we can only disseminate portions of the information at a time. We are not withholding information to be coy or to lord it over you that we know something you don't know ... there are things that must be put into place at each step of the way, and being the first time using this new system we need to make sure everything is set up and in place.

I know it's hard to wait, but I ask you to trust us.

I guess maybe because I am friends with some mods, the two tier voting thing was not a surprise.

I don't anything about the mechanics or the details, all I know is Barry Green emailed me asking where he could get a dart board divided into exactly ten sections, and ten darts...

Sounds good to me.
I personally like the change. It shows that you are striving to find the perfect system.

Thank you ... and to those who say it won't work, I wonder how you can say that when you don't know what the various steps are?

Believe me, this will be the best vote we've implemented to date. If for no other reason than it is by far the most accurate and fair representation of those voting. We are watching the numbers come in and are very pleased so far.

I like it. It answers a flaw I had always seen in the system with so few voters.

In HorrorFest 06, my film came in 3/10s of a point behind Jack's. But the number of people I would have had to buy beers to push me over that line, would have been pretty small. Maybe one person. Maybe 5. But it would not have been hundreds.

So I would even like it if they took it to ten and then asked the members to vote again. With a larger pool of voters, you have a better chance at fairness, I think. Makes the system stronger.

Of course, that is all out the window if that rumor about Fincher being on the judges panel is true...
