C200: The new Canon C200 with 4K

I think there's a reason why Canon isn't allowing anyone to record any footage with the camera.

If the cameras aren't shipping until end of August/beginning of September, I would guess the firmware and software tuning is still a work in progress. I make no judgments about any camera until it is a shipping production model. Knowing Canon, I seriously doubt they will release a massively flawed camera. They had to have learned from the C300 MKII NR issue. Things can be improved with firmware updates too.

Dealers are expecting them in early August, so they would probably ship towards the end of July.

Probably done for the most part...but I would expect multiple FW updates for sure.

Have you checked the original ungraded Footage?

It's a nice image. A little soft, and it does not change much with sharpening added, which I'm interpreting as low detail because of the limited recording bandwidth.

I'm not seeing any banding, but it's obvious that it's 8-bit footage because it breaks up really fast when trying to lighten the image. ( minor corrections are fine )

When was the last time Canon shipped their cameras at the same time as their original estimation? With both the C100 Mark II and C300 Mark II they were if I recall rightly about 1-3 months behind their original estimate.

Last I (or my dealer) had heard it's end of July/early August... do you know something we don't?

I agree with Eric, it would be unusual for Canon to ship them early August when their reps have been saying "August", I am betting more late August, early September but maybe we will all be pleasantly surprised?

I think Terry Nixon said, "late August/early September".

But first shipments will likely go to fill the early (pre) orders. And only the dealers and the manufacturer know the full list.

PS. As I recall from Jim Martin's posts, early C300 MKII went to the corporate clients.

The C100 Mark II was announced to ship "End of December 2014" and I bought mine at the end of the first week of January 2015. That's not 1-3 months... that's like 1-2 WEEKS late. And if I recall correctly, they were dribbling out for a week or two before I ordered mine (which was in-stock when I ordered).

The C300 Mark II was announced to ship in "September" and started slowly dribbling out in September (LensRentals was renting them by the third week of September).

The 5D Mark IV was slated to ship "September 2016" and dealers started shipping them to customers September 7, 2016.

All-in-all, Canon has a relatively good track record lately of hitting their ship dates. It's not like they're Blackmagic.

All I can find from Terry Nixon is "August 2017." Which is in-line with what I'm hearing elsewhere (low-volume toward the end of July, ramp up in early August).

Yes, that I was checking out the original graded footage. The producer gave an update that the footage was shot in Clog. I'm assuming Clog 1 is the only version available. I'm not a fan of log with the 8 bit.

Looks like something the 5D iV with clog would produce, not impressed..... so now we only have to wait for ML to find a solution to making raw work on the 5D4 and we wont need the C200. Great... :)

lol, that's the last thing it looks like...the 5D Mark IV in 4K is one of the sharpest cameras in the world.

So, it looks like Red is making something in this price range. I don't visit RedUser often but I reckon they'll be the source for any news.

Jim wrote, it wouldn#t impact existing RED cameras, so most guess it isn't a "traditional" camera in the filmmaking sense.

Its a consumer camera/iPhone/recorder. All joking aside. It wouldn't be a bad idea. He'd probably make more money selling those than the high end stuff.
