C200: The new Canon C200 with 4K

Looks like something the 5D iV with clog would produce, not impressed..... so now we only have to wait for ML to find a solution to making raw work on the 5D4 and we wont need the C200. Great... :)

While the mjpg clog footage will fall apart if pushed too far, it is much better than the long gop clog footage.

Hmm. I wonder what picture profile was used to shoot this video. I see quite a bit of banding and artifacts.

It's simply a seriously lousy grade from the original log material. I don't see anything wrong with this footage, short of some very minor false color / color aliasing (which is pretty much what you get from 4:2:0). It grades well -- I was able to quite easily move the mid-tones up or down and get pleasing high, or Low key results. For the customer that would use the mp4 codecs shooting long form, weddings, events etc, this camera should perform very well.

Jim wrote, it wouldn#t impact existing RED cameras, so most guess it isn't a "traditional" camera in the filmmaking sense.
They're a camera company.

So, it could be some form of an addition to a smartphone or, as speculated, a modular design. For it not impacting other Red cameras, it'd have to be far more budget friendly. I mentioned earlier in this thread that the Chinese could seriously effect the fixed lens market by simply entering it. Which makes it another, albeit somewhat unlikely, possibility for Red.

PS. Modular fixed? That'd be a departure indeed.

Thanks for the link. Not bad for 4:2:0 8-bit. I think that quality will suffice for many of my long form clients.

Apologies if this has been mentioned before but does anyone know if the c200 comes with a battery charger? From the b&h questions, it seems like it doesn't.

The charger, when bought separately is $525!!

does anyone know if the buttons on the C200 illuminate in the dark like the C300 ii? also if i want to mount an external monitor to the C200, i can do so via the sdi port or is it hdmi only?

I'm guessing the buttons do not illuminate because if you zoom in on C300 and C200 high-resolution photos, you'll see that the C300 buttons reside over a white cap (which provides the light), and the C200 buttons don't. I could be wrong though.

External monitoring via SDI should be fine, but not sure if menu overlays will be available.
