C200: The new Canon C200 with 4K

I guess the only way to see the RAW file is to look at your screen in the utility or Resolve before it is output, right? But even then, you aren't really seeing the RAW, right?
You can see it by applying the parameters you want, and you can see how much flexibility you have with the RAW footage in terms or color, temperature and luminance by manipulating those parameters.

I wish he had photographed some people though. Nature shots are boring as far as judging what the camera can do. I want to see skin tones, how it deals with skin imperfections, hair, movement rendering, etc. Carl's (ProAV) test footage on his review of the C200 has some nice footage of a model with a wonderful shot of her walking toward camera, it is pretty impressive how well the face tracking keeps her in focus but he wasn't able to shoot any Cinema RAW Light like Sebastian was.

Take a look at Cloakroom Media's Vimeo feed. They have a ton of Cinema Raw Light tests with the C200, almost all of them have skin tones.

I think this is a pretty "unnatural" LUT he's applied for creative purposes, lets just say the clouds wouldn't be that cyan and the greens that yellow/red if there wasn't some "creative' intent. Personally I've never understood camera reviewers who need to express their personal color balance on a camera test, but I guess to each his own...:-)

Will do. Hopefully something better than their "door on a street" series. Not very interesting footage to look at.

What's 'knockoff C300 Mark II'? Chinese copies, or genuine Canon's?
He meant to say, "canton". He bought a cheap canton in China. In the deserted North East. Right next to Mon-EGO-lia.

That's not raw that is video!

I think that if you publish a test with RAW footage you should provide the RAW footage.

I thought you were looking for a download link.

PS. the early reviews are good, so the next question for those in the market is whether to preorder now or wait until more reviews roll in with the actual production models. The downside to waiting is that it might take a while until your turn comes up. The down side to preordering is BMD.

Looks good but it would be a PITA to carry around on a long day of running & gunning. But options are good for all of us.

What about relocating the grip Terry? Any ideas yet? If I have the Tilta Arri rosette 6" extension and the Wooden Camera 15mm rod to double Arri rosette mount, from what it looks like, I could just mount the grip to the Arri rosette on the Tilta arm and get an extension cable to connect the short handgrip cable up to the camera jack? Specially wired cable? How long is the cable on the handgrip? Does it come with an extension? Are Zacuto and Arri going to be kicked out of the handgrip relocator business because C200 owners won't need the $300.00-$500.00 handgrip relocaters for shoulder mounted shooting?

what does the c200 output via sdi or hdmi? 422 10bit?
what does the future xf-avc codec entail in the future? 422 8bit?

After seeing this video comparison between the C300 and C200, there is nothing that the C300 MKII has that I want. the imagine of the C200 is better, and the workflow is effortless compared to dealing with Cinema Raw files. I think I'm closer to a decision now.

Both provide nice image quality, but at the end of the day one is 4K with 15 stops and the other is HD with 12 stops.

I see the Canon Cinema Cameras being used for a lot for documentary, events, weddings, etc. Is there any reason not to use the C200 for Short Narrative or Feature films? Would it be much different from shooting with an Ursa Mini or RED at 4K resolution?

The c200 would be excellent for Short Narrative or Feature films.
