C200: The new Canon C200 with 4K

Additional note; it looks like the data rate stays the same for 4K/60p at 1Gbps, so the bit rate actually doesn't go up to the PR 444XQ standards.

I read somewhere that with the Canon c300 mk2 clog3 can get you 13.5 stops of dr and clog2 is the full 15 stops. Is the c200 clog1 and clog3 only - is it gong to be possible to get the 15 stop they claim?

If I've understood correctly there's C-LOG 2 in C200, maybe there's not C-Log 3.

C200 is Clog 1 and 3, but no 2, from what I recall. When you film in RAW you don't actually use a Log profile, the profile is essentially just RAW, I believe. So, you can get the full 15 stops in RAW, and I've heard 14 stops for C-log 3, and 12 stops for C-log 1. I recall the C200's marketing stating when not shooting RAW it's 13 stops, but I'd imagine that depends on the profile you use.

Of course, if you're shooting 4:2:0 8 bit, you may want a baked in profile like Wide DR which is said to be around 12 stops, or you could use a log profile like C-log 3 and get a thin, muddy, noisy image, that may still have 14 stops of muddiness.

It does have C-Log 2. In fact Canon recommends using C-Log 2 for an HDR workflow. See here:

Raw Lite also doesn't bake in WB, which is very cool...

If one goes with el cheapo C Fast 2.0 cards, he'd have to first test the heck out of them, and then do the backup recording to the SD cards. And that's without the "can't read this file" problems.

OK, here's "good news" - in the fall of 2013, when SanDisk came out with the first generation CFast 2.0, a 256GB card was going for ~ $1,800 and its only real customer was ARRI. (right now, one can get an "older" 256 GB x3400 by Lexar for ~ $550).

https://www.engadget.com/2013/09/14/sandisks-cfast-2.0-fastest-memory-card-ever/

The EgoDisk 256 GB card can be had for $299 on Amazon but with a warning that the card hasn't been tested on ARRI and C300 MKII.

The Super Talent CFast is super cheap - $119 for 256 GB - but some super reviews make it appear super cheesy because it won't even shoot ProRes 422, except the super proxy.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017YOX6Y6/ref=psdc_1197392_t3_B072BTWJH5?th=1

So, excluding the low end, which seem to work OK on stills, the CFast 2.0 went from about $8/Gb to about $2/GB for name brands and ~ $1.2/GB for the more affordable types that yet to be tested with the camera that is yet to be released.

ProRes 4444XQ is UP TO 12bits, and certainly in 4k you see a lot of 10bit material in that PR 12 bit wrapper (DJI for one), as the data rate of a 12bit 4k signal is beyond stupid. You get a little bit more color resolution out of the deal.

Depending on what the actual numbers turn out to be, 4K/60p looks like it will fall around ProRes 422 (not HQ) rates. Similar to the 1DX Mark II in the sense of how the 4K/60p gets a bit of a drop-off compared to the 4K/24p (800Mbps vs. 500Mbps).

I'm sure it will look great.

A very recent EgoDisk CFast 2.0 review (with links)

Emm does some testing on Delkin

Delkin seems to be a no-go on Raw Light (it won't do 422 ProRes HQ)

It is on a F55, Alexa, F65, helium, Varicam. By the time, you get down to C200, there's no reason not to consider all the options.

Unless one's ego can't handle it. (RIM SHOT)

I see what you did there... Lol

But seriously, camera doesn't matter. Data/footage loss is data/footage loss. I don't wanna pay anymore than I have to for media, but I want to play the odds, too. I don't use (very) expensive SxS cards in my F55, I use the much more economical Sony XQD cards in Sony SxS adapters, BUT they are approved by Sony to work properly at all frame and data rates and resolutions.

True but, if that Ego trip turns up on the right foot, then it can be a nice alternative to the SanDisk and the Lexar. And the SD recording provides the backup, should the failings be rare but unavoidable.

PS. That BiWin site says and I quote :
All cards have sold out now – there is a production pause at our factory due to component shortage ...
Their cards tested fine for URSA.

Those EgoDisk cards look promising. Anyone try them with the C300 MKII? I would imagine if they can support the 410 Mbps 4K on the C300 MKII, they would support at least the upcoming XF-AVC codec on the C200. What about Cinema RAW Light, based upon the test results in the YouTube clip, should these record Cinema RAW Light? Amazon has 'em in stock if anyone wants to to give them a spin on their C300 MKII? https://www.amazon.com/EgoDisk-Blac...rd_wg=iFZO9&psc=1&refRID=MZBRJGW00WZEYC5AFGQ0

In the above video comparison between C300 Mark II and C200, the C200 exhibits a lot more details and looks sharp. So the C200 Cinema Raw Light files looks worth spending on additional CFast 2.0 cards. I am more keen on value that I can extract rather than price. All of us have to evaluate this camera based on its usefulness for our business.
