The Legend of the Stationery Officer

That sounds like the shoot from hell. Sorry you had to go through all that. You think you're going to finish?

Forgot to add that our sound equipment failed at 2 am, lucky we had an H2 as a backup, gaffed it to the end of the boom pole, doesn't sound too bad.

Most of the footage is now shot, we shot the last stuff with cast and crew Sunday night had to modify the script so that one actor could play two rolls at short notice. Was out filming for an hour or so tonight picking up little closeups and what not, my hand standing in for most of the cast. Have a couple of more shots to do but need to get the film up to auckland within the next couple of days for scoring, gonna be tight. Luckily we are a day ahead of you guys so the 19th there is the 20th here, gives me an extra day or so.

As far as getting what I need, our elaborate shoot out was crammed into half an hour at 2 am so was pretty rushed, but kind of feels like a hokey western because of it - a little bit of creative editing is required, but will get there.

Photos and more info after I finish cutting it together.

Ryan good luck, stay positive and push through the bad luck. shooting a short/movie is never easy and unfortunately the audience cuts no slack with the production. But you know at the end of the day what it took to make your film, what the problems were on set, and what you overcame. making these movies is nothing short of a small miracle each and every time.

PM me if you need help with the poster. Your stills look pretty creepy.

Thanks Defcon,

It's actually a comedy - I just decided to go for a dramatic look to it to offset the ludicrous situation of having a western in an office.

A member of the team has voluntaired for poster duty, will see how it goes.

Cool, the stills look fun. Good work slogging thru what sounds like a difficult shooting situation, and I look forward to seeing the short!

Dang, a real office, with coffee refills, work stations and in-boxes. Oh my. I used to be that. Worst memories ever. I think you could still call this a horror!

Love the wind-up Hiyo Silver'.

Not so bad as far as offices go, plenty of social activity, company sports, booze, etc. Unfortunately they gave the Air Hockey and Fooseball tables to a local community organisation for poor kids. Always more of a darts man myself though.

That was a cute one. Didn't know what to expect when it started. An office western, who woulda thunk it. Handyman 5000. Great Job.

I do like how it was all clearly shot in the dead of night.

Yeah after about 20 mins of shooting I thought **** should have pulled the blinds down, but then continuity. They all work the night shift, its a call centre or something.

You guys had some cool stuff in here. I liked the lighting on the cowboy and the stapler shooting was off-the-chain. Technically, the sound design could have been better. Some of it was really good, but there were times where it sounded like the mic used was the on-camera mic. There was one shot in particular where it sounded like I could hear the AC in the background. BTW - the guy falling off the ladder is killer. To take this to another level I think you fix the small sound issue and get better muzzle flashes for the guns and you're good to go. Oh, and the quality is very, very nice too! Congrats for getting a film finished and in. Good job!

This was a fun piece. I enjoyed some of the dialogue ("give me something wet") and the inventive "gun" play. There were a couple of times this felt like it was dragging. I think it could have used some sound work.

I didn't care for the break room being so dark as the stranger was telling his story. I'm sure you did it that way to keep his face in the shadows but I would have liked to have seen it handled differently, perhaps light with pools of shadows.

As I said, it was a fun piece and I enjoyed it. I liked the fact that you told a complete story with it, too.

Very funny, well done. I was originally thinking of doing an office western, but you pulled it off way better than I would have. I noticed a bit of hiss in the audio, would be nice if you could clean that up. There were some great lines in this (“something more substantial”) and a killer moustache. The interview scenes looked really good, but some of the office shots had a typical camcorder feel to them – I know it’s tough environment to work with. Great action for such a tight space. Thanks for putting in such a fun film.

it starts good... funny.

But it's too bad the direct sound weren't boomed that well... Don't be afraid to come closer... And take care of pointing at the right direction.... Good booming is actualy very havy.

Were windows and doors open ?

Don't be afraid to shut down things (like ventilation, heaters, airco's, fridges, ....) and it's better you do so... you can add as many heaters, airco's, fridges, ventilations, cooking pans, clocks, birds, cars, elephants, dogs cats as you want later on.

I like the "talking guy" being in the dark with some small light

If you could choose between fade in and fade out the VO....or one contious line...choose for the continious line... maybe make a VO were you add some recorded setnoise of the room where the VO was recorded.

But better was to shut down all noise making things.... People want' eat you...and you can shut down a fridge for a whole day if you want. if people say you can not...sent them to me
:p Everything can be shut down.... and if a whole building is shut down then...Well...so be it :p

You recorded the singing lady, the soccer thing game, that other thing at the same time... Never do... Now it's one messy thing. It was better you recorded the singing seperated from the rest... so as that soccer thing and that other thing.
