"The Dustin Rogan Project II" - roganFILMs

Spoiler:
SPOILER REVIEW:

I have to say that I felt like there were a lot of inside jokes in this that I didn't fully understand. I got some of them from watching the first TDRP, but for those that haven't seen that this will probably confuse them quite a bit. And since this is a stand alone entry, I should imagine some of the first timers will be scratching their heads. I do have to say, though, that your audio has come a long way. SO much better. AND for working with a 2nd until hundreds of miles away, you did a great job.

SPOILER ALERT:

ROOOOOOOGGGGGGGGGGAAAAAAANNNNNNN! This was hilarious!! Good job and very creative not to take yourself too serious and Jason did a great, great job! Things to fix would be the audio. Sometimes the audio was clean like it was done with a boom mic and then other times it sounded like the on-camera mic, especially in the bathroom scene. The other thing that was distracting was the shot of Jason on the bench in the beginning. The shot of him from the side - he kept kind of going out of frame on it. Other than that, this was very entertaining and made me laugh and smile.

This was really funny, typical Rogan. Great use of NYC and all the scenes and vignettes at different locations, pretty epic actually. I gotta watch it again to really figure out what the hell is going on. lol. but i thought it was a blast.

This was fun to watch. Def a film for the insiders.

There were sections of audio that I could not hear without turning the volume right up so that could do with a bit of post levelling.
And the shots in the park had too much ear in them. Peoples ears should not be center screen :)
The variations in the camera and finish were also a bit distracting.

Def fun to watch, well done.

Not really my kind of film and i think there were inside jokes that i just didn't get. I still found myself wanting to see what would happen in the end, but (to me) there didn't really seem to be one.

Sorry, but this seemed self-indulgent to the extreme. After wading through the entire film for the ending – there wasn’t one. The poor sound and color grading along with the choppy editing made this tough to watch.
It’s not easy to pull together a two location shoot like this in a short time period. Kudos for giving it a try.

Thanks for the compliment Marlon! I just wanted to say that I'm not sure what happened, but somehow in using the footage I sent him, Dustin lost some of the sides of the frame. In Rodney's original framing of me in that close up, my face was completely on screen, as opposed to going out of frame.

I notice that most of the people who "don't get it" or "self indulgent" are noobies to the forum...and werent here for the spirit of the first one. Where it was about us making a film. Thats ok, say your piece ye film experts of DVXuser

this "mysterious ending" that no one gets...Jason hacked into dvxuser, and corrupted the download (aka the static and error message) to try and stop me...whats not to get?...man i miss all the old school people who'd get this....i think. Yes i have audio issues...don't very good at fixing audio, color grading...eh i'm trying but thanks for watching.

I think its actually kinda funny people ripe me a new one with 4-5 lines of what i did wrong and try to sweeten it by saying "oh you tried at least....kudos" HAHAHA

I haven't read others comments but I think this movie is pretty funny. I laugh out loud just when the damn title comes on with the music, it's just funny.
It did take me a few views to understand it all because i think some of your dialogue gets lost in the music or whatever, and that's what made me not initially "get it".

Your villain is over the top excellent and all the self referential "Rogan" stuff is hilarious, you immortalized yourself here.

You do have some inside jokes (Beans, your WestFest entry for example), but overall you remind me of Kevin Smith in your humor and dialogue. And that's a compliment.

Well... I've been around long enough to get the jokes (I don't know if that's a good thing?), so it works for me!:)
Enjoyed the film and as we all know, robot's don't wear pants & I'm REALLY glad you kept yours on this time.
Is it much better then part I? Yes...yes it is.
Were there technical faux pas? Sure, but who cares... this was a fun film.

Jason did a great job as did you and the rest of the cast & crew. Can't wait for Part III!

Oh, okay. I was wondering. I know you guys have way too much experience for that. It made me think at first that you had to film yourself and had just set it up on a tripod and I know how tough that can be. Anyway, again, great job. Rogan, I did get the ending just fine. I think for people that know you guys this was super-funny, but some of the funny jokes others might not see as much. Your films are always entertaining so keep 'em coming.

I hesitate to respond to this but I'd like to make a couple of points. I've been a DVXUser member since 2003. I'm sorry that I didn't join in on your unique status here or become part of the Justin Rogan fan club. I didn't know it was a requirement to comment on the films. After reading your thread, I took the time to watch your first film before watching part two. I didn't care for it, but then I'm one of the few that thought "Dumb and Dumber" sucked. You have over 2000 views on this thread, far more than anyone else and the most pages of comments - and everyone but two thought your film was hilarious. That means well over ninety percent of the folks here thought it was great. I'd think you'd be overjoyed by the reaction, but you seemed to be pissed that TWO of us didn't go into convulsions of laughter.

I assumed people were looking for honest criticism. All the films have been receiving it and the filmmakers seem to be responding with measured and thoughful responses. Some films work for people and some don't and I notice that a film one person thinks is terrific meets with a more negative response from someone else.

I meant it when I said trying a two location shoot was a tough setup and that you had the guts to gave it a shot. Sorry you find that an insult rather than a compliment. I never claimed to be an expert, just another viewer commenting honestly on what I saw. Trying to improve on technical issues is fine, but pointing them out is part of the review process. I've received comments on my film that didn't exactly warm my heart, but it's interesting to see people's reactions and it's part of the learning process.

I too hesitate to respond to you....
a few points...

The name is Dustin Rogan...not Justin

And it was the spirit of the film from the first one the whole 3-4 months of the build up and then the appreciation that the first one had, these days seems that Dvxuser fest are a ghost town compared to previous.

So you don't like tongue in cheek funny...your opinion, of which you're entitled to sir. Am I pissed, not at all. Glad the hand full of people (compared to last TDRP) loved it. Was this film made for DVXuser? and wouldn't stand alone outside the site? yes.

Sir I simply wanted to relive the spirit of the last one

If you have time go back to the original thread and you might...might see what I was talking about

TimeFest entry - The Dustin Rogan Project

Thank you for watching

Sorry Dustin, the name thing is something you SHOULD be pissed at. My bad. And like I said, most folks here loved it so be happy.

This was a lot of fun.

It reminded me of the early Fests, when there were so many more films and many of those films were made in this same style. It wasn't just about the craft of filmmaking, it was about having fun shooting and entertaining the other members of DVXuser. I could create a list of technical things that aren't perfect here, but I don't think that's the point.

I love all the inside jokes here. I love the energy of it. I wish there was more of that spirit in the Fest.
