GH2 Thankyou Panasonic for the GH2 firmware 1.1, yes it does do 25p and 30p

This sounds awesome. I can't wait until VK works the magic.

I hope it isn't long but seeing as VK is warning it will take time I'm not expecting it soon. Would love to be surprised and wrong.

I'm not sure if its worth switching to the new firmware and shooting 30p for my broadcast work or keep the beefed up 108060i. Anyone know which one would look better from experience with the new firmware?

My apologies for my ignorance, I'm probably late to the party on this one. I just downloaded the firmware and saw the new "high bitrate" option. I just shot and imported footage and while the bitrate is slightly higher, the frame rate has changed from 23.98 to 29.97. Is it not possible to get this higher bitrate (with this firmware) and 23.98?

Thanks!

VK said patch will roll out this weekend. Rock On!

Wow... Amazing. I was scared when VK said it would take sometime. I guess his idea of time and mine are very different. lol

Once the new hack rolls out it might just be time for another donation.

It appears your software (displaying media info ) is rounding up since it's actually 23.976

Regardless of rounding up, the new higher bitrate is not 24p, correct? I just want to make sure I'm not missing some menu option or something, thanks!

does this firmware update 1.1 also include the lens update? , as i try the lens update after updating to 1.1 and they did not work.*

The bit rate is variable depending on changes in scene from fame to frame - higher bit rates when shooting moving objects/scenes. For static scene the bit rate drops due to the compression algorithm.

I do confirm - instant power up! Also after updating fw, a footage @ 25p is brighter than previously 24p, and exposure meters shows around 3-4 bars more (I kept GH2 settings and light the same, Manual, 1/25sec. 3200 iso, Standard Film Mode all=0). Noise is slightly finer/less visible. Also after pressing record color shifting seems noticeably lesser.

I also am getting instant start-up. Very nice! I'm also pleased to see that I can use "High Bit Rate" mode to shoot 29.97fps at the same bitrate that I can already shoot 23.98fps.

if anyone intrested, clipwrap's creator has a newer version for correcting new HBR format.
25p (wrapped in 50i) appears as interlaced in most nle programs.
Even if you declare it as progressive in the program, when you put the footage to a progressive timeline , it needs render.

I tried avid 6, premiere 5.5 and FCPX.

NOt anymore, if you want to try out the newer beta version (PAL) , contact Colin @ dmsupport@divergentmedia.com and ask for beta version for GH2.

I tried and it worked nice.

No re encoding , just transcode from mts to a more friendly mov file.

if anyone from ntsc world can send them 2 clips, one at 30p and another 60i , the can fix it for ntsc users too.
Only a few seconds are enough.

After fw upgrade, GH2's external mic sensitivity is finally correct and well calibrated. Fed from H2n headphone/line-out works fine at Audio Level set to 2. No need for sescom cable or any other attenuator. Previously (before fw update) I had problems (clipping, distortions) with exactly same settings on GH2 and H2n. Now external mic input is MUCH better than before!

are you connecting your zoom into the gh2? or have a mic on both pieces camera and recorder (zoom h2n)?

Yes i now have the 1.1 update, being in a pal area i have always used 50i as 24P has never suited me.with the update i recorded a few frames last night in the new high bit rate and playing the card back in my ps3 i found the mbps were about 4-5 mbps higher than 50i not sure if its as high as 24P but the high bit rate is not 25P or they would not play in a ps3 and i can see no option for recording in 25P so am i missing something.

It's 25p in a 50i wrapper, ie what they called 1080p25 PsF(progressive segmented frame) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progressive_segmented_frame
