GH2 Thankyou Panasonic for the GH2 firmware 1.1, yes it does do 25p and 30p

Not having any experience using hacks etc, would someone please advise me on a newby question: I've dowloaded the firmware update for my GH2 as instructed. The site then advises me to transfer to a formated SD card and gives an illustration of a Windows XP example. I have Windows 7 and have the SD card in the laptop's SD card slot. What I have on the SD card is three folders: DCIM, MISC and PRIVATE. Which one do I transfer the update data to? Many thanks in advance.

Here is the official update page from Panasonic, it has pictures that might help

Thanks for your replies, but I'm still having problems, not least not knowing what "root" refers to. I have dragged and dropped the GH2_v11 file to the SD card as advised. However, when I insert the card into the camera and swith on, press playback button, I get a message "Firmware Update Must Be .Bin File"
I have version one on the GH2, so I don't know whether that has any bearing on things. By the way, the Panasonic site advises to check that the camera's firmware is up-to-date, but how do I do that? Sorry if all this sounds dumb, but I'm not very technically minded (just like going out and making little films).

There are dedicated sections in the forums that troubleshoot you're issues David. The original topic is being derailed so we should keep this thread clean for those trying to catch up who don't want to skim through pages of unrelated topics that have been covered a million times. Sorry to seem harsh but I frequent the latest topics to get quick updates of the latest developments and most if us don't have time to dig through all day long.

To help answer your issue you probably didn't name the firmware correctly. Make sure there are two underscores between "GH2" and "V11" so the file name reads "GH2__V11"

guys i must think that the most of you here work for panasonic because there is so much desinformation
- color shift after recording is the same. there isnt any improvement at all
- noise is at the same level as before. no change

only good think of this update is possibility to shoot at 25p. maybe AF is better, but who uses this...i havent tried yet

It means "not in a folder". I think you have the correct place.

The file you download is an exe file...a program you have run on your PC (or mac). When you run it, it creates a BIN file, and that is what you need to put on your card. Double click on the GH2_v11 file after you download it and watch carefully where it say it creates the BIN file...then copy that one.

Well, 25p is terrible news. Do you know how much harder this makes it for PAL users to choose a camera now? We actually have to choose between the GH2 and 60D now, rather than just defaulting to Canon.

A little too late for me - I already sold my GH1 and bought up big with Canon when the GH2 was first released with no 25p, but this certainly has me peeking through my neighbours fence to see what the grass looks like there.
You mean terrific! ;-)

Really glad to finally get 25p... This makes mixing with other 25p cams and keeping sync sound so possible, totally changes workflow for me and makes GH2 so much more viable for what I do! If you don't need it move along, why so much bitching?

Hi all - I'm one of the developers of ClipWrap from Divergent Media. We'd love to add native progressive support for the version 1.1 psf (25p, 30p) modes - would anyone here be able to provide some sample footage so we can track down the flag panasonic is setting? We've recently done similar updates for the Canon psf modes and it works pretty slick.

If anybody is willing to provide a couple short sample mts files (some 30p and some 60i from the same camera/firmware) that'd be rad. Drop me a note at dmsupport@divergentmedia.com.

Cheers

It would be possible to install 1.0 hacked into the camera, not that you'd want to. Vitaliy will have a new version of pTools in a week I am guessing, he is the man
Yes, he truly is the man. Has replaced Lee Marvin at the top spot of my "The Man" list. Now Lee Marvin and Charles Bronson have to compete for #2. HAHAHAHA

m43user: Thank you very much for your intelligent reply to my query. Most helpful. FarinHeight.Productions: Well, is everything written on these pages really relevant to the original posting?

please , can anyone from Ntsc land send a small clip (30p and 60i) to Carol from clipwrap ?
I send him 2 files from Pal but he needs from NTSC too.

Start Up Time after Firmware 1.1 install

Start Up Time after Firmware 1.1 install

I've noticed that my GH2 turns on instantly after I installed the 1.1 firmware. I mean instantly. I'm thinking maybe after the firmware install I need to go to one of the menus and turn off some sort of 'instant on' feature? I looked for it but can't find one. Doesn't mean it isn't there. Anyway, with the original firmware it took just a bit before I saw the LCD screen all ready to go. Now when I flip the switch to On...boom, it's on and ready to use. I'm not complaining but is this normal?

Ok, here's an update if anyone was curious about the quicker start-up time. No Surrender over at Personal-View replied that his newly firmwared 1.1 GH2 also turns on instantly now. Ok, so 2 people does not a robust survey make. Anyone else?

I do confirm - instant power up! Also after updating fw, a footage @ 25p is brighter than previously 24p, and exposure meters shows around 3-4 bars more (I kept GH2 settings and light the same, Manual, 1/25sec. 3200 iso, Standard Film Mode all=0). Noise is slightly finer/less visible. Also after pressing record color shifting seems noticeably lesser.
