Do you think the T2i's video is identical to the 7D's, beyond reasonable concern, and at full resolution (1080p)?

(Please move this to the T2i section once it is up)

There are subtle differences in my opinion. But nothing blaring. It'll only be noticeable to us in the video field and not the regular joe schmoe though.

looks pretty identical to me. the 7D in the test video seemed to be a little more light sensitive, but that could just be my monitor.

If anyone can tell a difference it's the chart people. They don't count in my opinion because they don't really make films, they just measure things on charts.

If I can hardly tell the difference, the audience won't.

I tried to make it clear on the first post, but I think this makes it even more clear. These sorts of opinions would be a YES vote. That is exactly what this poll is about.

Respectfully, you have no clue what you are talking about. There isn't a single big movie you've seen and loved that didn't have their camera systems tested thoroughly with charts before they left the rental house.

The problem with charts is that people don't know what to read from them, or understand how it carries onto the real world.

Happy day for all of us! The differences (at first glance) are so minor that shooting on a T2i will NOT be a significant DISADVANTAGE. There may be differences, but I'd certainly take 2 T2i's over one 7d. Congrats to us all!

and that is why I voted yes :P I was only stating opinion.

I think you misunderstand what I'm referring to. I'm not anti calibration or making sure the system works. What I'm against and who I'm talking about when I say "chart people" are the folks who can't make their movie until they have the perfect camera.

Sometimes those of us who measure things on charts, make films too. In just the last 13 months, three separate films I've produced have made it into three of the top 10 film festivals in the world. (including a film shot on the GH1, and the short film that screened at the red-carpet gala on the opening night of Slamdance.)

So if you meant to say "pixel peepers" (those folks who don't do anything at all but obsess over pixels here and there) then yeah, I'd agree with you. But just because someone knows how to use a chart, doesn't mean that's all they do.

Apparently my terminology is incorrect. If the proper term is "pixel peepers" then this is what I'm referring to.

We're talking about the difference between an $800 camera and a $1700 camera. If there is a slight variation in image quality on a level only perceivable by someone looking for it, it's a non issue in my opinion.

I agree totally. I expect there to be some differences; for half the price there should be substantial differences. If there are only mild (or even no) differences, then the 550d becomes a major steal.

Haven't decided yet. If it looks like it's identical video, then maybe; I really don't need both a 7D and a t2i, I get annoyed enough at just one of them. :P But I'm thinking if the video is identical, I'll probably pass the 7D on and replace it with a t2i.

Does the T2i offer high ISO noise reduction, and if so, how well does it work?

Also, is there a highlight retention option?

1)Yes but I don't know how it applies to video:

2)Yes, independent settings for both video and stills although I've heard its not as good as using a custom curve like this:

BTW, I've verified that 7D custom picture styles are compatible with the T2i/550D. Probably with the 5DII as well since they are not camera specific.
