I dont know if this has been posted already, but this is a pretty thorough 7d vs t2i comparison. Good enough for me, but maybe not the pixel peepers. The only difference i saw between the two, was that the 7d had maybe 1/2 to 1/3 of a stop better lowlight. The noise looked identical! and the t2i had less skew/jello!

You can't judge skew from separate pans, they need to be attached to each other so that the speed is matched, and split frame top and bottom. The differences where minor if any.

I don't know about the sensitivity either... I'd say we need better tests.

EDIT:
Here is another review, I am going to read it now.

(Does anyone more Vimeo-Savvy than me know how to view the videos?)

My t2i arrived this morning and I played around with it and my 7D side by side. So just now I voted yes in the poll.

Now by no means am I like Barry Green or Phillip Bloom. My tests are a little more amateur.

I will point out this. All the peripherals like SDHC cards and even the power cable that you need to buy are waaaay cheaper with the t2i.

Can't judge skew from that. Think about it, he panned twice and there's no way he could do it exactly the same each time.

true, but from those two pans the t2i did look a little better in terms of skew. I proper test would need to be conducted to get accurate results though.

(I voted yes.) Just a quick comment: If 80% of us, with a "trained eye" see identical video... I think it's safe to say that the "un-trained eye" sees identical video 99.99999% of the time.

It's over. Welcome to the family T2i. I received mine yesterday. I have a shoot today. I'll post results later.

UPDATE: RRrrrrrr.....my shoot just got canceled. (Music video for an artist who is just going on tour) Now scheduled for next week.

To my eye, 7D seemed to have better perceived resolution- probably from contrast difference versus absolute pixel depth. I'll have to head over to Phil's to see what his still side by sides look like.

J Davis, put this one to rest for us pls. Grab a piece of scrap wood, two lenses capable of the same focal length, and a skateboard. Tape down your 7D and T2i to the piece of wood or what have you so that they are as close to each other as possible making sure that you use a sheet of paper to match the corners, to match framing, so they converge at a known distance on practically the same frame. Then set them on a dolly/stakeboard, anything that rolls. Set the dolly in front of a fence or other object with lots of straight vertical lines making sure they are at the same distance as the sheet of paper was when you used it to frame them on the same converging point. Roll back and forth at different, increasing, speeds.

If you don't have a dolly or skateboard you can get the same or better results by somehow getting the contraption on a tripod head, just make sure the center point between the cameras is directly above the pivot point. Pan back and forth at increasing speeds, from a very slow pan to a whip pan.

Then post the shot in split frame, once with the 7D on top, then with the T2i on top. $20 they are the same.

If you do we can put this very important subject to rest. Also, you can use the same contraption to walk around and shoot all sorts of stuff to test anything else... post the original h.264's and presto (but then two of the same exact lens would be useful and you might not want to converge very close, or at all).

BTW, I am guessing that about 50% of the 9 "NO" votes are disgruntled 7D owners. So far Zephyrnoid is the only manly man who stepped up to the plate and explained his position.

Qualified YES here. Comparative tests look close-enough, other than the T2i being about 1 stop darker in low light. Aside from the excellent video, I'd have a hard time adjusting to those buttons - just what you'd expect on a cheaper camera. Sure the price is great (and cheaper SDHC is a plus), but after spending $3-5K on lens, the price of the body is pretty much a moot point.

Regards, Michael

I'm glad someone chimed in and showed Jj's test...

Sure the price is great (and cheaper SDHC is a plus), but after spending $3-5K on lens, the price of the body is pretty much a moot point.

Please note that this is NOT a criticism Moonlitnight, merely an observation. I agree that for a user that IS CURRENTLY spending $3-5K on a lens, 1700 on a camera is a moot point. For those of us who REALLY have to dig deep, (and promise our wife a vacation in Disneyland) in order to justify spending 1K on a lens...1700 IS THE DIFFERENCE between getting (for example a Tokina 11-16) or NOT.

On the other hand....so far.....there is NO "reasonable concern" as far as difference of video. (That being the question posed here.) Again, I'm not saying this cost difference should be an issue for YOU. I'm saying that is IS the difference for broke folks, newbs, people who want two cameras for the cost of one, etc.

The video comparison between the 7d and the T2i is SO CLOSE that it's NOT REASONABLE to think that using one compared to the other is enough to even mention. Now, I'm not saying that someone may NOT FIND some exotic situation where one is better than the other. (...watch out, it could actually favor the T2i) I am saying that it doesn't look like the video quality is identical beyond resonable concern, AND the 800 dollar difference DOES MATTER to some of us.

I have a 7D and see really no difference in the videos seen so far. I am trying to use the glidecam 2000 without vest and I would definitely like to try the lighter T2i for that use.
Regarding the use as a B cam I have a problem with having to buy again all accessories except for the lenses, so batteries, cards, intervalometer, viewfinder: that's some money. Probably it would be cheaper to buy a second 7D body from someone switching to the T2i.
Not to mention that if B cam as to be I would rather have something with different characteristics, especially without rolling shutter and moire issues.

I thought about that but I bet it goes the other way, too. There's gotta be some people who voted the opposite just because they either have/bought a 550D or really want one.
