Scene settings

Yeah but it's grayed out even in 720p60.... Not sure what gives.

Darren, In this maze of posts, somewhere, Barry noted that DRS is only available at *some* res/frame rates. I do not remember specifically, but I know 720 was not one of them. I think it was 1080i, which pissed a lot of folks off.

I'll try that, thanks!

No no, I have the camera in 720 50p (I also tried it in 720 60p) mode and I get it. Try using cine-like gamma and DRS should become available.

That's what I'm using, 720p60 and the above Scene file settings on Scene File #1. DRS still grayed out...

Hello everyone,

I've had a chance to read both the HMC150 and HVC200 user guides and my Scene files from my camera (the 200). The actual capabilies are far more different than I though. From what Iñaki posted, my camera picked up most of the settings (it will apparently get the shared settings and it seemed to ignore the ones it didn't understand).

I don't know if a HVX200A or a HPV170 will have the same scene settings as a HMC150 or not - likely not. Too bad.

In future upgrades of cameras this cries to be a firmware update.

Well, a good idea anyway.

The HMC150 and HPX170 have almost identical scene settings. The only real difference is that the 170 has a "frame rate" option and a "operation type" option.

The 170/150 have the same basic scene settings as the 200A, but with more range in the master pedestal and autoiris settings.

EXCELLENT clarification as usual Barry, for all our inquiring minds........

Thanks, Barry. That clears a lot up. The HVX200 seemed to Read the data it could read and ignore the rest.

Unified scene files that could be shared across the family of cameras would seem like a logical step for Panasonic to take. Shooters would, presumably, have legacy settings they would want to port to their new cameras or rentals, especially for a multiple camera shoot.

Again, thanks.

haven't had much time to fool around with the scene setting so just wanted to put out these questions ( please forgive me if it's asking too much:(

I plan on doing a few shorts and some webisodes using the 150.

1.) What do you guys recommend as far as scene settings for something like this that closely resembles that of film? I plan on shooting using 720/24 in PH mode

I also plan on doing a few short films to be put on Bluray as well as on the internet (Vimeo and the likes).

2.) What scene settings are recommended for low light that, again, resembles film?

Probably very general questions but just want to get an idea as to what you guys are using and what is a good setting to get the desired results. Thanks again and sorry if they are very general.

Jona

HMC150 scene files from HPX170

hello everyone.

i looked around for a collection of scene files, but didn't find a sub-forum or any previous posts. forgive me if i post this in the wrong place!

i took the hpx170 scene files from the panny site and edited them to match the hmc150 format.

for those that don't know, i'll try to explain how it works.

you can store/load 4 'scene' files on the camera.
each 'scene' file contains 6 presets corresponding to 'F1, F3, etc'.
so what you can do is create 4 different 'scene' files or groups of presets and load them as needed.

i plan to create a scene file for each type of job/shoot/project, eg, wedding or ENG news report. you have to name the scene files 'SCENE1.txt' and 'SCENE2.txt', but the presets can be whatever 6 digit name you want.

i'm attaching a 'SCENE1.txt' to show the format you need to follow when creating your own custom groups of presets.

simply copy the values from one of the looks you want and paste into 'SCENE1.txt' so that you have 6 presets (F1-F6). copy everything AFTER "<F1>". then 'save as' 'SCENE2.txt' or 3 or 4 to create your 4 files of grouped presets.

the 'SCENE1.txt' is slightly modded from the default, i changed F1 to the 'vivid' look from panny.

i hope this helps!

Is it possible to save scene files somewhere besides the dial on back? Like the user buttons, or within the menu somewhere? I have not found something like that. Would be so cool if, in the future, we were just able to hook up a USB stick to the camera and load scene files from it into the menu.

the sd card is like a usb stick....the 4 scene files sit on the card. you load 1 at a time into the camera to fill the 6 presets on the dial.

so if you take the folder uploaded by digitalcapturegroup, you can copy those to your card. inside each .txt file, you can name the scene file with an 8 digit title. the presets in those scene files are pretty well grouped. SCENE1 is your default basic presets. SCENE2 seems good for films. SCENE3 has the most extreme presets for music videos or more drastic looks. SCENE4 is all around warm and soft.

go ahead and edit each .txt and give them your own logical 'TITLE'. the TITLE is how it appears in your camera menu.

thank you averan for the tip. helped alot
thank you digitalcapturegroup for the file. that helped too.lol
