Hi all,

Any interesting scene file that you want to share?

I have yet to learn all the different image tweaking settings so having others settings would be great.

Thanks to you all.

Im interested in some good scene files too.

So far I have used a toned down version of the F3 spark scene file with good results. I will post the settings later.

I am looking for a colorful, sharp image with moderate contrast. It seems the whites/highlights are blown out and there is too much contrast with the factory scene files. The saturation is also a little too high, greens a little too hot. I edited the factory F3 scene file to improve this.

Barry Green posted a sweetened HMC150 scene file somewhere around here (can't find it right now). I just got done shooting over 2 hours of 1080p24 footage with Barry's scene file in a wide variety of lighting conditions and it is stunning. I did tone it down to Cine-D instead of Cine-V, especially since I was shooting very contrasty stage performances among other things. Also shot some ballet dancers at 720p60 which look amazing at 24p. Fluid grace!!

Actually I was shooting an EX1 at the same time and aside from the EX1's FAR FAR superior LCD and f1.9 lens (all the way through) there was NO appreciable difference in light sensitivity. I haven't viewed the EX1's footage on a HD monitor since the EX1+footage stayed with the client, so admittedly I don't have a 100% accurate assesment. Unfortunately I can't post any footage or even screen grabs because it was work for hire... but the HMC150 held up VERY well in extremely dark conditions!

Darren, could you copy paste the txt file here? that would be really apreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I shot some footage in Scene file 6 (Cinelike D) with Master Ped all the way down to -50, in twilight, that looked GREAT... but other footage with the Master Ped at -50 had really "bleedy" shadows. I'm shooting at -20 Master Ped now and it's holding the shadows better.

This camera handles the pitch blacks exceptionally well.

Hi all,

Are the HMC150, HVX200, and HVP170 scene files all interchangeable?

In the HMC150 , like the HVX200, you can save 4 settings for each position on the knob?

Here you are, this is what the text file looks like

I wonder if it has to do with the CODEC? Could you post an AVCHD Scene? It's going to be a while until I can get an HMC150 (I think).
I've read that other cameras like HPX500 can't read 200 files either, I don't think it has anything to do with the codec. This would be purposely since often there are settings that do not translate or have different values. They COULD have written the firmware to read other model camera's files and convert them, but really there are only a few settings, so manually entering isn't too bad... always had to do that with the DVX. I would guess that the screen values of the DVX and HVX would roughly translate over.

One thing to note from the file above is that it is a PAL camera. The camera checks the model number and frequency when loading. An NTSC camera cannot load a PAL file as is, and unfortunately trying to do so will not give it a 50hz mode. You should be able to make it compatible by changing the first 3 lines to match a file from your camera. For North America:

Ver 1.00-00
AG-HMC150P
SYSTEM FREQ:59.94Hz

There is a good chance that syncro setting is for PAL too, so you will probably want to change that as well. I believe 702 is the default for AG-HMC150P.

Looking forward to see more...

Thanks Iñaki and McSmooth,

Well, what I did was remove the first three lines of the scene file and put the first three lines of my HVX200's file in their place and the same withe the Syncro-Scan file line, worked like a Champ. I got the same Title file names and each of the specifications per group.

It looks like an fairly easy way to share settings.

Thanks.

Could you post an AVCHD Scene?

Here are the settings I used: (Barry originally suggested CINE-LIKE D but went with the less-contrasty CINE-LIKE V)

DETAIL LEVEL: +2
V DETAIL LEVEL: +2
DETAIL CORING: +1
CHROMA LEVEL: +2
GAMMA: CINE-LIKE V
MATRIX: CINE-LIKE

CINE V is for more contrast

CINE D is for more latitude or "Dynamic Range"

Yeah, guess I had that backwards. As the manual clearly states on p. 87:

CINE-LIKE D: Uses a gamma designed to create cinema-like images.
CINE-LIKE V: Uses a gamma designed to create cinema-like images with emphasized contrast.

But I shot everything on the V setting and it didn't look too contrasty to me. Actually I'm kinda glad I got it "wrong" because others are complaining about noisy shadows when using CINE-LIKE D.

Can anyone share any experiences with both?

Iñaki and Darren and McSmooth thanks so much.

What I'd like to do over the next few days is collect some sample footage of some scenes and post them with the text files to share so they could be edited for use with any of the family of cameras in either PAL/NTSC and from any of the types (assuming that is possible - a big tip of the hat to McSmooth).

Fortunately, I do have a life, so don't know how much time I can devote to it over the next few days.

BTW, does anyone have the AVCHD to DVCPro Version 1.0 converter? I have 1.2, and 2.0, but not 1.0.

Cine D will bring up some shadow detail in low light but if you have a good range of exposure thru out the scene from a bright highlight to dark shadows then the noise shouldnt be much of a problem. if you have say a single light source lighting a face and the background is all dark then Cine V may be best.Again im talking about my DVX100a which is kinda noisy to begin with.
Coming from the DVX the 150 blows it away in the noise area from the videos i have seen on here so far. Cant wait to get shooting with the 150 and do some tests.

I got a little noise in the Cine D setting over the Cine V. As for the shadow noise it's weird - as far as I can tell, it's shadows with some light hitting from another source that are causing some "noise" - when I look at these actual shadows with my own eyes in real life they look kinda "noisy".

Well I'm all for getting the cleanest image possible... I'll be staying with CINE-V as my "standard" setting. I will try some experimentation shooting 720p60 in CINE-V along with some DRS (once I figure out how to turn on DRS, lol)
