S1H new price

There are other "wild" rumors too. A7SIIIa and so on.

Even FX-9 II.

Waiting until the NAB announcements to make a decision may not be a bad idea.

If wild rumors come to fruition, it is usually not 3 weeks after you first hear of them. Whatever the heck an "a7siiia" is

Even if b&h ships my fx3 on Sept 30, I will be within the return window by the time sony makes an announcement

But I'm really starting to think that an fx3 is exactly what I want. An a7iv would be a compromise, just to save money. And even if something better comes out for more money than fx3, I'm not interested in spending it. Fx3 is $3900 and I'd rather not spend more than $3k as it is

A minor mod to the existing model, such as A7RIVa, where the "a" got a higher res screen visavis the original.
a h right, that was the other a camera. I'm not sure what they could do to the A7 S3 that would entice me more. Adding a fan would not be in minor modification and what also basically just make it an f x 3. Although I will say that my A7 S3 evf is color accurate but my rear LCD screen color does not match the actual footage, which is annoying. But somehow I doubt that's what they would fix especially since inaccurate color on the LCD screen is somewhat common on stills cameras

Jared the Fro says Nikon rigged their auto focus sequences in those video leaks - tacitly confirmed by Nikon - but that the AF should still be top notch.

So, now the "gotcha" feature becomes .... eh, codec?

maybe the gotcha will just be that it's Nikon. and therefore if you want to use it, you have to totally switch over to their system (since nobody is using it). the squeakiest wheel gets the grease?

A lot of shooters still have the old Nikkor glass but I am not sure how its AF motors work with the modern bodies. From a technical perspective, it should be a really solid offering but Nikon has had a torrid time keeping pace after switching to mirrorless.

well, the video shooters aren't using nikon yet. so those video specs are wasted on them. i do meet wedding photographers using nikon, mostly still with DSLRs. maybe this will be the unit that gets them to move to mirrorless

D850 is a great camera ... but ... Nikon went from having a 30+% market share in 2015 to only 8% in mirrorless in 2020 despite giving away the FTZ adapters with their Z-mount cameras. And they're expecting to lose another half a billion in 2021. As my grandmother used to say, "Oi, gevalt".

Z9 squeezes the entire market down. 8K, ProRes Raw/HEVC 10-bit, capable AF, N-log (via firmware upgrade) for $5,500.

I wonder how they can get around RED's patent to implement prores raw internal. maybe because it's not technically a video camera?

I try to take consolation in the fact that I probably don't need any of the specs/codecs that it offers that I currently lack. i'm telling myself something similar about the M1X Pro, although that one could certainly speed me up

Maybe they just agreed to pay Red small licensing fees much like they do for the HEVC. Or maybe Apple already did that earlier. Or maybe Nikon told Red that, if Red doesn't play ball, they'll just make a Monstro copy for $4,500 and bankrupt Red in a week anyway.

PS. That last line is tongue-in-cheek but let's note that Apple couldn't make that threat. Nikon (and Sony and Canon) can.

I would say that 1 and 2 are pretty likely. Codec licensing fees aren't huge per unit sold and minuscule as a percentage of a retail price for a high end piece.

The last part of something that is afflicting the whole photo-video industry. When I first joined DVXUser in 2014, my first thread starter was about a D810 being used to shoot a "major motion picture". At least, that's how Nikon presented it. (the movie wasn't big per se but had nice visuals and was made in Australia with Nikon funding). D810's specs aren't a secret. It was a great photo camera. And now one can made a movie with a consumer/prosumer camera quite easily.

Once you tack on all the amenities required by a robust film shoot (which can't even really be tacked on. They preferably have to be built into the body, if they're even a possibility) then I don't think the price difference is as great. This camera would be $15K
